OT: The Cutler Situation

Even if that is the main reason, what's the big surprise that would happen and be any different than the countless actions by other players/agents over the years who want a new contract? Is it worse or different just because Cutler is a QB compared to what Boldin and his agent is doing to the Cardinals in trying to force a trade so he can get a new deal? What Walker and McKenzie did to the Packers when they wanted a new contract? When quality players aren't happy with where they play or want a new contract, this what they and their agent do. They make threats and thus hope it gets them what they want, it's been going on for a long time and will continue going on long after Cutler is retired and Bus Cook is maggot food in a casket.

Did those cases ever get even remotely as bad as this? There's a difference between a hold-out or not showing up to camp and mudslinging/playing this out in the media. This is Bus Cook's MO. If he wasn't Brett's agent I'm sure everything could have been handled in a more amicable way and his legacy wouldn't have been tarnished the way it was.

It's just magnified ten fold because the guys Cook represented were big name quarterbacks. When a big name QB isn't happy for whatever the reason, the local and national media follow the case harder than a presidential scandal. The media isn't going to hound the team, the player, and his agent 24/7 for any quote no matter how tiny if the unhappy player is a WR, TE, RB, or DE. If it's a big name QB though, each comment by any party involved is picked apart on sports radio shows, on Sportscenter, on every ESPN talk show, and on every sports site on the net. If this was about say Brandon Marshall instead and all other details were the exact same, it would have got coverage for one day and been dropped by the national sports media.

Hey, i'm not saying Bus Cook is some great guy. I just don't see him having some extreme level of slime as an agent that you do, he strikes me as a fairly typical slimey agent who just happened to represent three big name QB's who were very pissed off about something while he was their agent.


EDIT--So i'm reading SI and Don Banks echoes my point about the media playing a huge role in blowing this situation so out of control.

DB i have a hypothetical question for you. Lets say the packers got rid of TT and MM. Hire a new GM. Hire McDaniels as the head coach. He comes in and tries to Trade for Cassel and get rid of Rodgers. Would you still be saying the same things you've been saying about the Cutler/McDaniels situation?
