Best Europeans?

Post#1 » by Boognish » Sat Mar 21, 2009 10:45 am

Charlie Rosen recently answered a question on the best European players in the league, picking Pau as slightly better than Dirk

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/9354 ... unbeatable

What's the pecking order on Euros in the league?

Tony Parker obviously belongs in the conversation as to the top euro, but who's in the top 5-ish?

Other names that I thought of off the top of my head include Okur, Luol Deng, Boris Diaw, Z, Hedo, Peja, Rudy, Marc Gasol, Kleiza

Rough Top 5
1. Tony Parker - 21ppg/6apg Finals MVP, clutch as hell (forget the game he blew tonight), can explode for 40+ anytime, very efficient scorer (terrific FG%), good defender (especially for a euro)
2. Dirk - still averaging 25 ppg, 8 rpg, on 47%, hope he can find a ring as a 2nd option somewhere
3. Pau - 18ppg/9rpg/3apg/1bpg/57FG%/78FT% silky smooth, great passer, doesn't get abused defensively as badly when not playing out of position
4. Hedo 17/5/5 numbers down from last year, but I've always loved watching him play
5. Okur - 18/8/1.7 good shooting big man

Who are the top 5 euros and why?

Biedrins should be also in the list...

id have to go with pau gasol right now because he's tremendously helped his team to reach at the point they are right now, whereas nowitzki and parker are good, but not doing too much. also, the lakers record with gasol in the lineup is like 70ish-18ish...thats ridiculous

6)Hedo
7)Calderon
8)Ilgauskas
9)AK47
10)Diaw

Not a homer, but I don't think you can discount the way Bargnani's been playing lately....just look at his numbers since the New Year: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/andrea_ba ... stats.html

Luis Scola probably cracks the top 10. He's not flashy, but he gets it done. And he's really cheap to boot.

Argentinian-italian; like Ginobili, Nocioni and Oberto.

Their granparents were from Italy (Ginobili, Scola etc are italian surnames), and when they played in Italy or Spain, they played as "italians" (due the "nationality" rules).

I'd say Dirk is the most talented of the three, but you can't be wrong with those 3, whatever order you put them. All 3 are great players, all 3 play huge roles on winning teams.

And alltime it'd be Drazen Petrovic, just a fantastic player, died way too ealy...

He's not European he's from Argentina which is part of South America.

Dirk is number one on my list followed by Parker and then Gasol.

ROFLMAO at these guys. What team do the Argentines play for? Argentina! Which is their mother tongue? Spanish from Argentina! Where did they grow up? Argentina! Where did they learn to play basketball? Argentina! Where do they consider home? Argentina!

I am a dual citizen myself, and I am still American.

1. Dirk Nowitzki
2. Tony Parker
3. Pau Gasol
4. Mehmet Okur
5. Andrei Kirilenko
6. Hedo Turkoglu
7. Boris Diaw
8. Zydrunas Ilgauskas
9. Andrea Barganani
10. Jose Calderon

I think Biedrins doesn't count. A Baron Davis effect would happen to him if he played anywhere else that isn't an steroidical run-and-gun system.
