Jarrett Jack vs T.J. Ford

Starting guards T.J. Ford and Jarrett Jack had to be separated during a timeout in the middle of the third quarter of Friday's loss to Dallas.

The two starting arguing on the court and brought it to the huddle. Stephen Graham, Josh McRoberts and assistant coach Jay DeFruscio all went over to try and calm Jack down.

Jack was sent to the locker room by coach Jim O'Brien. Ford was also taken out, but he checked back in with 8:54 remaining in the fourth quarter.

"We had a situation where Jarrett and T.J. had a dispute on the court," O'Brien said. "I subbed for them and didn't want to carry it over. I asked Jarrett to take the rest of the night off. That was my decision."

Jack had already left the locker room by the time the media arrived.

Just wondering what you guys think of this situation? Has it been going on for a while or is it something that has just developed recently?

Hopefully the Pacers sort this out A.S.A.P which i'm sure they will.

hmmm this is the first time they have had a fight, at least to our knowledge. Seeing as Jack was the one that got sent to the locker room, it seems as though he was the aggressor. If this doesn't get resolved and starts to affect the teams on court performance, I hope Jack gets traded. Most of the board will probably disagree and want TJ out though.

It doesn't necessarily mean Jack was the aggressor. We're better with TJ than with Jack, so it could have just been that JOB sent the one that we could better afford to lose. If it came down to it, I think most would rather see Jack gone than TJ. Not that TJ is God as you suggest, but he's better than Jack.

Im in the minority then. I can't stand TJ. I'm not saying that Jack is better, but he plays more fundamental ball. Honestly bang for your buck Travis is my favorite pg. I just wish he could learn to play defense. I would be fine with a Jack/Deiner combo. Seeing as we can get value back for TJ. I would like to have Balke from Portland to be honest.

Same here. I'd like to know who these "most" people are that supposedly would rather have TJ than Jarrett. At the start of the season and even through the first 15 or so games, you could've convinced me that Pacers fans like TJ more than Jarrett, but I'd say the vote has definitely swung in the favor of Jarrett as the season has progressed. TJ has been one of the most inconsistent players on the team all season and has had numerous games like last night where he couldn't make a play to save his life. He hit a miraculous 3 at the end but that does not make up for the piss-poor performance he had the rest of the game. He's supposed to be an "all-star caliber" PG, and he's barely looked like he should be a starting PG half the time. I'd love nothing more than to see the Pacers package Ford and our lottery pick in the off-season and pick up a good young big man (if there are any takers).

I think if there is a way to take back less money TJ might be traded about the time of the draft nothing to do with the fight with jack, I think he's overpaid and we can get more for our money someone will be willing to give us a player and a pick!

The numbers for Jack and TJ are pretty similiar, with TJ taking more shots and slightly better assists. We are not winning too many games, so a fight here or there is not necessarily a bad thing. I know JJ does not take anything from anyone while TJ was rumored to be a grind on teammates in TOR and MIL. I doubt this is going to cause a trade.

Jack is a free agent, so we can't trade him anyway unless we do a S&T.

If this keeps going on, I don't have a doubt in my mind that we'll just let Jarrett walk, which would suck because i've become one of his biggest fans.

I don't think that will happen. You can tell that JJ has become one of LB and JOB's favorite players as well, because of his tenacity on the court. Every team needs a player like that and if we were to just let Jarrett walk, there would be a big vacancy in our hustle department.

I've seen Jack jump all over Foster over something once. Couldn't hear what they were saying obviously, but Jeff replied w/ what looked something like a "STFU" statement

It's not a trend yet, so until it is, I think it was just a heat of the moment type thing.

Interesting ahartley. So Jack has a history of arguing with his teammates and was sent to the locker room by Obie. I think it's safe to say he was the aggresor. Also if we weren't in major debt, I would suggest the team pays for Jack to get some psychiatric help

You need psychiatric help for guys like Artest, Sprewell, Rasheed, Rodman. It doesn't matter who started it; anytime ANYONE argues back, they are just as much to blame. It takes two hands to clap (Chinese proverb that doesn't really make sense, but basically means that the whole "he started it" justification is for elementary school kids). Both point guards acted unprofessionally out there, and obviously what Jack had to say was more detrimental to the team in O'Brien's opinion. That's not to say he started it, we won't ever know for sure. Neither party should have lost their cool, but to say that someone needs to go is overreacting, and this whole situation has gotten blown a little bit out of proportion.

I think it should be mentioned that Jack blew up after 3 straight possessions when TJ was the only one to touch the ball. He dribbled the ball and pulled up 3 times in a row clanking it off the rim. We've seen this all season and Jack just had enough. Can't blame him for getting angry, but you can blame him for the way he handled it. Not very professional, but then again it's a heat of the moment type thing and he couldn't take it anymore.

I think Pacer fans need to think back to the loss on the West coast back about a month ago. I think it was there that Jack and O'Brien verbally jousted over that final play of that game as well.

I thought that Jack was an answer to our problem, now I've totally reversed field on the player. This type of system Jack excels at, but if he's becoming a me player, then he needs to hit the exit ramp, don't bother with the qualifying offer, just let him walk.

While I didn't see the game, I would agree that both players acted unprofessionally last night by acting in the heat of the moment. It's hard not to when you play a game that's supposed to be played at full speed.

Have said that, I was really looking forward to have Ford and JJ on the team this year. As the season has progressed though, it was JJ that seemed to shine. He's been more consistent than I would have thought, while Ford has been largely inconsistent. I'm not sure what will happen in the off season, but I'd definitely like to keep JJ and trade Ford if possible.

You would think that Ford would excel in the type of offense that he gets to run, so I'm not sure what's going on with him this season. And he's been pretty healthy this season too. :-?

Given Larry Bird's comments on Jarrett Jack I think it is safe to say TJ would be the one moved if it came to that.

Im the opposite Cdash, I really like both players. I was a season ticket holder in Toronto and met TJ a few times, from what I could tell he is a general nice guy and would never stir up problems within the team. That being said its still a business and it doesnt really matter who started it, if it doesnt get resolved TJ will more then likely be gone.
