Garnett back in the huddle.....

Post#1 » by Kefa461 » Sat Mar 21, 2009 11:54 am

At times last night it was hard to tell who was running the huddle, coach Doc Rivers or the player whose time had to be micromanaged.

Kevin Garnett, whether walking out to midcourt to lobby referee Mike Callahan during a timeout or screaming at teammates who had just fumbled away three straight turnovers, delivered a lot of energy for someone who only played a Rivers-mandated 15 minutes.

As it turned out, only a cameo appearance was needed to stir the flock.

Nice to have him back... 8-)

Added Davis: “He gives you energy just by looking over at him. I would grab a rebound and look over at him, and he’d just give you this look that made you feel it. Him seeing and saying things on and off the court just gives you an unbelievable feeling. We’re just blessed to have him.”

hells yeah hes back

There's no game thread yet, so I'll just ask this in here:

Any word on if KG is playing again tonight or are they sitting him on the back-to-back? If he does play, same type of minutes as last night, or what?

why is it that he wasn't with the team through out the duration of the injury. I'm sure his energy and enthusiasm from the bench could have helped this team in games. I can understand not travelling to away games, but instead of watching it at home in Waltham, why not watch it from the bench and maintain the intensity that he brings and demands of others; one thing we were surely missing without him. just my two cents.

I agree. He should have been at the home games, at the least.

Seeing what intensity he brings to the game, even when he is not on the floor, makes me wonder if he is destined for a player-coach role in the twilight of his career...

those of you who follow every celtics game should be aware that KG was in fact at every game except for 3 or 4 where he was at home/Waltham. He doesn't sit courtside because he can't take it.. not being able to play. he goes berserk.

He's usually in the back/lockerroom with Danny Ainge and TA/Scal, and anyone else. Don't you remember that one story.. the pep talk at halftime that injured KG/Rondo gave the team against Orlando? KG checks in every game.. he gets treatment in the back.. he doesn't draw attention to himself.. comes in way before or after the other players.

He doesn't want the focus to be on him so he sits in the back with DA. Otherwise. look at Wade. An injured wade against Boston.. but the camera keeps zoning in on him. The Celtics are about the Celtics. It's a team. Ticket is getting that point across. The ultimate embodiment of a Celtic. It took him long enough just to agree to appear alone on a video game and magazine cover.. that was only after the title.

he needs to get his emotions in check on the bench and let the team build of his energy. He can be more valuable on the bench than in the locker room. He's old enough that he should be able to stay composed despite not playing in the game. I can understand how a young player or someone who doesn't get it becoming a distraction or liablilty to have on the bench, but that's not the case for KG. Even having him on the court for the fans can add to helping the C's pull out a game. Its an energy physics thing.

I've always heard that as well. I read somewhere that when he's hurt, the Celtic brass tell him to watch the game in the owners suite or watch it at home since he gets so into the game that they are afraid he's going to hurt himself even more just by being near the team.

if KG was coaching your team, you probably wouldn't lose a game. But who is to say he would last the entire game? He has to be out there.

Just try to relate.. don't you get really into it as a fan? Don't you go crazy some games, like Tommy? just think of it like that.

Then imagine that you were one of the players themselves
and then imagine you had KG's energy and endurance and you were KG

Now you can understand why he shouldn't be anywhere near the court when he's not dressing up for the game.
