Division/Playoff Seeding Watch

Well i decided to make this thread since the race for the division is so close this year, with portland trailing us only a game and utah being 1.5 games back with under 15 games remaining.

Fell free to update and keep the discussing going.

good idea.

portland beat milwaukee today, they're 1 game behind us. play home vs. philly on monday
utah has until tuesday off, where they're home vs. houston.

Rockets beat the Spurs and are now in 2nd in the West. We are .5 behind the Spurs and 1.0 behind the Rockets....

This shall be interesting

want utah to lose, but i really doubt they will.

winning the division is key. locks us in for at least #4 seed.

I can't wish you guys too much luck for obvious reasons (the worse you do, the better the 2nd-round pick you give us is), but I think we can all agree that we want Utah to do the worst out of the three division contenders. We each play the Jazz one more time on our respective home courts, and both our teams have what it takes. Let's make it happen.

jazz lost tonight. 1.5 games back now.

thunder will be on the second of a back to back after playing san antonio.
we haven't lost to a sub .500 team at home all season.
without massive injury bug, that game will not be a L.

Exactly. We have 6 home games, 4 on the road. All of our home games are against the bottom of the league, save for the Jazz game. And all our road games are against playoff teams, save for the Wolves.

If everything continues, we should win at least 5 more games at home....and at least 1 of the roadies. That's 52 wins minimum, possibly more.

The Jazz schedule, on the other hand, isn't too pretty....

Minnesota

@ Dallas
@ San Antonio
Golden State
LA Clippers
@ LA Lakers

6 road games all against West playoff teams(one against each of them actually, minus Houston)....and 5 home games.

The probably wont lose any of those home games, so that gives them 5 more wins. But here is their problem: they are 2-13 against +.500 teams on the road....and those were against New Jersey and an OT win against Detroit, both back in December(they were over .500 at the time, now they're not....so you could technically say they're 0-15). Now they'll have to go get some road wins against West playoff teams, in the heat of the playoff race, when everyone is still fighting for position. Doesn't look good for them.

But for arguments sake, let's say they unexpectedly go 3-3 in those games. That would put them at 52 wins, which is where I put our minimum. The tie-breaker between the two teams is still up in the air. They lead 2-1 right now, but if we were to win the game against them, it would then come down to division record. We are 9-3 at the moment, they're 10-3. However, in order for that to even matter(meaning we'd have won the game against them), we'd be 10-3, and they'd be 11-4(or 10-5, if they lose to Portland). So we'd be in pretty good shape there. If somehow that also ended up tied, they'd then win the tie-breaker in conference record.

That's so much to think about with a lot of possibilities. But I guess it comes down to something simple, we're in a pretty damn good spot right now when it comes to the Jazz specifically.

Portland is harder to say, as their schedule is much easier. That could potentially come to the last game of the season in Portland.

I see us going 8-2 over the last ten games. We should sweep the rest of our home games, and beat Minny on the road. Meaning we have three games left that could go either way, @ Mavs, @ LAL, and @ Por. I don't see any reason we can't win atleast one of those.

True, but I see us getting lazy after rolling over the Clips and Tpups. Of course, I would love to be proven wrong.

While we are watching the Division for the playoffs, we should also keep an eye on OKC . If they would start losing, or if one of the teams close to them in record starts winning a few games, it could improve our second round pick. Currently, it would be the 6th pick in the 2nd round.

OKC 20 wins
Minny 20 wins
Clippers 18 wins
Memphis 18 wins
Wizards 17 wins
Kings 15 wins

Memphis went to 18 wins tonight with their win over the Kings.

portland won easily and utah barely squeaked it out tonight.

damn you grant hill. play like a 10 time all-star against us, and then play like anthony carter in the 4th quarter/overtime of that game.

Looking at the schedules, Denver should be able to if they take care of business. Only unlikely win left in the season is at LAL.
