Man Jammer - you are aweful quick to write Marbury off with a month still to go and a 10 year track history of being highly productive...he's 32, he'll get it together before the playoffs start - he's already learned the offense well enough to look good running plays and finding people.

As far as Giddens goes - how do people not understand that there has been no opportunity for rookies this year. Bill Walker has been getting minutes at the 3 and 4 when there were injuries - there has never been minutes at the 2 this year.

Walker is probably ahead of JR in some ways, but Giddens not playing has as much, if not more to do with the wing depth on this team.

I will hazard to guess that a full off-season of working out with Walker, staying in Boston and working with the staff will see a much improved JR Giddens from a mental standpoint - at which time his excellent skill set will yield dividends.

TA's days are numbered IMO - JR is better than him at ever facet of the game except knowledge right now...forget Chalmers- he's been allowed to learn on the job - something that never, ever, ever would have happened on this team...

billfromboston:

I agree Tony Allen's days as a Celtic are probably numbered.
Other posters have pointed it out before, including you,
although I didn't want to call attention to it again until brought up.

I also agree that JR Giddens and Bill Walker should at least
turn out to be decent bench players.

My hang ups with Steph are:

No Confidence in his shot when wide open, evidenced by his 0.304 field goal percent
Propensity to turn the ball over
Until recently poor movement without the ball, which still needs improvement
Much weaker left hand than I expected

I think fans don't realize how effective Eddie House is in terms of:
Shooting Efficiency
Movement without the ball
Helping the team flow in terms of positive energy karma
Quick Hands on Defense

So, I'm not so quick to pencil in minutes to Steph over Eddie.
Actually, Eddie deserves to be the first guard off the bench.

he's been a point guard his whole career. His turnovers and FG% will go up/
his off ball movement is neccessary, he's a point guard. At most, off the ball he just needs to find a corner to spot up in and take the open 3 and make it, like a bruce bowen or horry or posey. on the ball is where his strengths are and

Much weaker left hand than I expected

yet he's sstill gotten himself into an all star game or two..not a huge concern for a guy who's going to be a BACK. UP.

Positive energy karma? really? Wow. I didn't know trash talking and jacking up shots is now known as "Positive Energy Karma"

As for shooting efficiency, this is House's best year of his career. Prior to this including last year he was at like 53% true shooting. He's only become effective because he's been shooting the 3 really well, and while that's nice, it's not as guarunteed as penetration leading to kickouts. Also he's been playing a bit of backup 2 beside Rondo. Once steph's 3s start falling he'll be perfectly well off. Also, steph can draw fouls. Almost every foul shot eddie house ever takes is an end of game "time management" free throw which I don't consdier to be a possession in which he DREW a foul. Those in my opinion pad his TS%

We're not asking stephon to be a backup 2. In fact the opposite: we're asking him to play backup 1 on offense, SO THAT eddie can play backup 2, ultimately leading to better flowing offense, something the bench hasn't been reliable for.

As for quick hands on defense, he's better than steph but I wouldn't say he's great. He's average.

Even if not Chalmers, I will say that taking a guy who was likely to go undrafted with a first round pick was a reach, and I don't care if you like Giddens or not. It was a reach when Isiah drafted Balkman at No. 20, and this was a reach. He should have waited out Giddens and tried to acquire him via free agency, and use the 30th pick on someone more helpful. and less risky.

Marbury was hitting his jumper against the spurs. I remember at least one of them being quite a long J and it looked pretty damn good.

His shot is coming back. Another 10 pack of games and he'll be up to "solid back-up" level. His presence on the court and impact on the second unit already have him as our 2nd best pg.

Stats aren't everything and the second unit looks so much more cohesive with Marbury at point.

By the playoffs he'll be pretty good. By the finals he'll be (for a back up pg) very good.
