Clippers thinking of dropping Dunleavy as GM?

Post#1 » by theFRANCHISE » Mon Mar 23, 2009 12:21 am

just saw this on the wire

Several NBA sources have told the Boston Globe that the Clippers are quietly considering relieving coach/general manager Mike Dunleavy of his GM duties.

Rumored candidates include former Heat GM Randy Pfund, a former Lakers coach, and ex-Lakers and Grizzlies GM Jerry West. Dunleavy would be expected to remain as coach since he is signed through 2011.

jerry west wow that would be a great change I think, if he could turn the clippers around that would be a great accomplishment bring in the LOGO

I agree about dropping Dunleavy as a GM, but as a long time Clips fan, and probably the biggest Canadian Clippers fan ... but after seeing that loss to the Raps today I refuse to be a clippers fan as long as Dunleavy is the coach... Anyone else agree?

The Pfund rumor does not surprise me since there was talk of him possibly coming over last year. West would be great, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I doubt he would come here after the way everything played out with Baylor.

Trade wise, West would work, but his drafting swag was off bck when he was wit the Grizzlies. Plus he's retired from the game. Just let the man be.

I find it disturbing that they would even entertain the thought of letting Dunleavy come back as coach. It is apparent to anyone who has seen the Clippers play that the team has quit on him. Just get rid of him altogether.

NO WAY Jerry West comes to the Clips especially after the treatment of his best friend Elgin. Going to Memphis was one thing but West isn't going to the team that shares the same building with his beloved Lakers.

BTW, if they MUST keep Dunleavy because of his contract they should just bump him upstairs. They hid Elgin up there for years. Dunleavy has done 'ok' with drafting and trades. The man just cannot coach to save his life. I can see why Sterling is upset about paying all the extra coin for players like ZBO, Baron, and Camby and has gotten nothing in return for his money. You can bet the new GM's first job will be to somehow offload some of the salary.

If West is not available, I'd get the guy from Denver; made team better while cutting costs. Perfect for The Donald...

Souces close to Jerry West told KNBC that the Hall of Famer has been approached by the Clippers about becoming the team's next General Manager. The legendary Laker said thanks, but no thanks.

This clearly validates a report in the Boston Globe that the Clippers are considering removing Mike Dunleavy as GM at season's end. Dunleavy is currently both the GM and Coach of the Clippers, a 17-54 team mired in a dreadful season.

Sources say that West has no interest in the Clipper job. The team is reportedly interested in former Heat GM and ex-Lakers Coach Randy Pfund. Either way, it's clear that something has to change for the Clippers, and that change may be coming soon.

I've been thinking that since after all those other coaches with bad starts were fired. Dunleavy is the only coach still coaching of that group.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Would there be a worse GM/coach combination in NBA history than Thomas/Dunleavy?

As if your franchise didn't suck enough. Now Sterling wants to bring in Isiah! If I were you I'd say to hell with the Clips and jump on the Lakers bandwagon. Quick question, how can the Clippers become worse than they've been over the last 20 years?! Hire Isiah. haha
