Scal :)

Post#1 » by Dirty Water » Sun Mar 22, 2009 8:34 pm

When does the big red head come back? I have not heard anything on his progress. We could really use him. He's played well this year and has turned into a fan favorite.

What's the scoop with him? Will he be back for the postseason? I know he's dealing with a concussion but it's been quite a while now.

Come on now ... "we could really use him?" ... let's be real, he's not that important, he barely plays and I'm certain he won't step on the court in the post-season.

So in other words, I'm glad he's getting healthy, but he makes a very minimal impact for us.

DISAGREE----Scal was VERY important to us this season--with the absence of James Posey---He actually did a LOT of things that Posey did. When Perk went down,it was Scal who stepped into the starting lineup-and we went undefeated til Perk came back........The combination of KG and Scal being out, really hurt us----one reason Danny wanted Joe Smith.
Scal might not get many playoff minutes, cause Mikki Moore will have "gelled".

He should get Bill Walker's minutes.

I think you'll find that the win/loss ratio with Scal in the starting lineup Vs. KG is higher with Scal for the last 2 years. He is a sound player....know what he can and can't do....inlike Tony Allen for example.....besides....what would a championship celtics team be with out and akward white guy??
All time favourite Celtics: Bill, Dave C, LARRY, Kevin, X, Reggie, Alla, Toine and Paul.

I know he helps - I don't disagree, and I do think he does do nice things out there, but I just don't see why Doc would put him in our playoff roster.

As bad as Tony may be on offense, he is an excellent defender off the bench for us.

he spreads the floor better than any of are bigs & I think he would have been in the playoff rotation, he is are first (not the best) guy off the bench.

I would play Scal over Tony come playoff time. He makes the right play more often than not, is not a bad defender, and can hit an outside shot. While he's not James Posey, he is a poor mans version of it.

As for playoff roster, both Scal and TA will be on it. You'd have the rookies and Pruitt as the inactives.

Some people might remember that we had a very good win percentage without KG until March 09. One reason was Scal.

Absolutely. More often than not Tony makes idiotic plays, although when he is playing well he's pretty damn good. I just think Scal gives us more (I can't believe I'm writing this) overall...

Nah. Scal's career might be over. Three concussions? And a minor modest career like he has had.. He should get out while he still can. I am serious.

He was never a big plus for this team. TA was +86, Scal was +47. So stop with all this "he doesn't make any mistakes crap." He makes PLENTY of mistakes out there. He has made some really dumb plays for a guy who is supposedly mentally smart.

Scal gives you some more size then TA though. So it's really Scal vs. Moore. Both seem somewhat basketball savvy if not terrifically talented. Both hit outside shots. Scal has more bulk but isn't exactly strong. Moore has more length but doesn't use it perfectly effectively.

I think we are missing nothing with him gone. We can win a championship without him just like we did last year. OTOH I wouldn't mind have TA around to blow some fouls on Lebron. TA might make the odd steal or something. Scal will do nothing against him. He is just way to slow.

Scal gives us spacing at PF when he is in. No other big can shoot the 3, so I expect Scal will get minutes when Doc wants to spread the floor. He is also a very good defender against quick PF`s, so it would be nice to have him back. Can we win another ring without him? Of course. But it still nice to have another option on the bench...

I *do* agree with Pete that if I were Scal with all my money and health (minus the 3 concussions) I'd retire...he's young and in good shape...he'd be all set for the rest of his life...why risk it?

Moore gives you pretty much the same package. Yes he doesn't hit the three ball but he does spread the floor and is pretty fleet of foot.

Scal is a fan favorite, and Tony or Mikki is not that yet and dout they every will be. If Scal hits one of his three's the whole Garden goes carzy and that alone could win us a home playoff game. I hate to say it but I miss scal.
