Leon's Situation.....

When a player with a history of knee surgery is put on the shelf because of knee trouble, his team’s alarm rate automatically intensifies.

That’s the case with forward Leon Powe, who has gone under the knife on both knees in the past and is injured there again.

“The good news is that no surgery will be involved,” Rivers said of Powe’s current problem, which is expected to keep the forward out for at least another 10 days.

“But that’s good - he’s more upset with the way Cal got their (butts) kicked in the (NCAA) tournament (by Maryland on Thursday). He even talked me into taking them in my bracket.” . . .

Yeah leon make sure you are healthy coming back with those knees. Nice to hear it's nothing serious.

His knees are fine at this point. At least in the sense of not being any greater injury risk than anyone else. too bad he'll just never regain the explosiveness he had as a freshman. it was something to behold.

Huh? he wore a huge brace and was playing on a bad wheel his freshmen year at Cal - had less explosiveness than he does now...you wanna talk about his JR and SR years in HS before the knee injry that's different - still not much more than he's got now though...

Leon's got about a 34 inch vert - gets his hand to the top of the white square - I think he's plenty explosive and has great balance and coordination....this kneed strain is pissing me off though - he needs at least 5-6 regular season games to get back in rhythm - hopefully he comes back soon.

The most recent words emanating from Langley...er, Waltham...are not encouraging. I wish the Cs would be more forthcoming about Leon's injury. It was the same way when Tony had his first knee injury a few years ago. The Cs made it sound like a minor deal and then he was ineffective for a full year.

I will go so far as to say that the Cs cannot win 18 without a healthy and productive Leon Powe. Mikki Moore will be chewed on, eaten up, spit out and crapped on by the bigs on the Cavs and Lakers.

Powe is most valuable against the Lakers. He has a history of good play against them. And if the Cavs interior D is as bad as it was last game (I doubt it) then he'd also be of great value in that series as well. I sure hope this isn't too major.

yes we need him. If Doc is correct then he should start practicing around the 31 st which gives him 2 plus weeks and 7 games to get back into shape. If it's longer than that then he may not be ready for the playoff, although don't forget that the playoffs take about 2 months if you go all the way so there's time for all of these guys to get back into shape provided we don't get knocked out in the 1st or second round. Last year we played 26 playoff games- almost a 1/3 of a season. It would be nice to take care of our first round opponent in 4-5 games and then rest up for Orlando or whoever it's going to be. I'll say this much : if detroit is the 7 seed and Phill is the 6th seed finishing 3rd might not be so bad even if it means you don't have home court in the 2nd round. I just have funny feeling that Detroit would be a very tough out in the first round, especially against us since they are extra motivated to beat us
