TJ demoted! Is a trade coming?

Post#1 » by basketballwacko2 » Tue Mar 24, 2009 3:23 pm

TJ has been demoted according to the wiretap.

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... _demotion/

I've got a feeling we're gonna be moving him and saving some money, let's say we could get Blake and Portlands #1 for TJ? Saves the team about $4 million in 2009-10 and a good $8.5 in 2010-11. Who else would be interested I think Dallas might be and Houston but I'm not really seeing a deal right off.

So JJ cannot beat out Blake for the starting spot in Portland, beats out TJ, then Portland trades a #1 along with the guy that beat out JJ? Add to that Portland takes on additional salary.

Something like that! 8-) Some Blazers fan suggested it the other day and it kinda stuck in my head, I'm open to suggestions on what to do but if JJ is gonna start for us next year we really need to move TJ and/or Jamaal becaus $16 million in backup PGs doesn't sound good to me. 8-)

I am not opposed to trading TJ as he has proved everywhere he has gone that he is not a starting PG, Im not interested in Blake as we already have Diener who basically plays the same game. I would much rather package our pick with TJ for a solid PF or a higher draft pick.

See count? This is why you're great, and why I suck. I would've come up with a 10 paragraph thesis on the law of numerical averages and about outlier's and all that jazz, but you summed up the only point I would've made in barely one sentence.

Kudos. Keep it coming. Show these guys how it's done.

This marks the first time in all of recorded history that I've ever been accused of being concise.

I like a trade of Ford and #8 for Jordan Hill/Greg Monroe and salary filler.

I think it's likely we don't resign JJ and keep T.J. even with the demotion.

JJ isn't worth the contract he'll pull now, and we aren't in a monetary situation to add salary that isn't going to get us into the playoffs.

I am actually in favor of the TJ for Blake trade now. A Blazers fan said since they have cap room they could do those 2 straight up... I don't know if he was right or not, though. Keep Jack if the price is low, if not just let him walk. We could take a shot at PG in the draft if all the PFs are off the board. I guess a lot depends on the next few weeks to see what I want to do this summer with the PG situation.

Huuuuuge if here, but what if we got the #1 pick? Try and trade that for Conley and the Memphis pick? I don't know, I am literally just throwing out ideas without thinking. That is what I usually do. What is the #1 pick/Blake Griffen worth?

Here's the horse.....

Trade them both for Mr. Ed the IV.

Hell, at least then we'd finally have a size advantage at the PG spot.

I still dont think he will get near 8 million in this market so if your going to use financial reasons as your reasoning for keeping TJ it sdoesnt really add up.

8 million a year? For Jarrett Jack? I'd be surprised if he got 5 million a year in this market.

TJ's contract is already on the books. You aren't going to be able to get rid of it even if you gave him away for nothing. It makes financial sense to keep TJ and let JJ walk.

It may or may not happen, but that's my call. Perhaps TJ + Murphy out the door will make salary less, but I don't think we'll want to do that either.

At the moment, there's no good reason to sign Jack. Obie likes him, he is a skilled player, but we need the salary he'd provide to stay afloat, and he isn't worth it.

Maybe the Pacers think he is. My general guess on the situation is losing 6-8 million less next year is more important than having Jack around.

We couldn't get rid of TJ's contract? I bet there would be a lot of teams willing to take on his contract, and willing to give up legitimate assets for it. Were you talking about Tinsley?

$6-8 million isn't even a vaguely rational estimate of what Jack will get next season. First of all, very few will be able to offer even the full MLE ($6), and even fewer (probably none) will offer that much.

Second, on the infinitesimal chance that someone offers that much, the Pacers will let him walk to avoid going over the tax.

However, the runaway most likely scenario is the Pacers re-signing Jack to a 3 to 5 year contract, starting at somewhere between $3.5 and $4.5 mm. My guess is 4/$18.
