Quincy Douby?

Post#1 » by RapZilla » Wed Mar 25, 2009 2:53 am

So............... Quincy Douby?

But seriously, what should we (as Raptor fans) expect from this guy. Can he get to the hoop? Defense? Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm assuming he's playing for the Raps now? I guess I haven't been paying attention to what's happened to him.

The guy is a scorer, but he really had little opportunity to get any PT here (if you're a young guy who can't get PT on one of the worst teams in the league...does that count as a sign of something?). In the few opportunities he did get, I personally was not all that impressed. He perpetually had a "deer in the headlights" look and exhibited questionable decision making.

I won't say that he was all bad. He did have a couple of good outings, showed glimpses of having a deadly outside shot and had some ability to get to the basket. The main problem is that he is undersized to play the 2 and lacks the ability to play the point. The Kings wanted to fit him into a combo-guard role, but he never developed the ball handing abilities to do what the Kings wanted from him. He wasn't terrible on defense, but I don't remember much from him to make me want to say that he was more than an adequate defender. Maybe others can give you a better sense on that than me.

Overall I would say that a new environment may be what he needs to get a fresh start in the league. But my gut tells me that he's destined to play oversees for a few years before he ends up moving on to a different career.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

The story I heard is that Quincy in practice was hitting his 3's like clock work. In the summer league he averaged like 30 points a game and had a 40 point game. But come NBA game time he seems to gets the yips.

He has long arms and showed some pretty good defense at times.

I agree with KIE and think he will end up over seas for a couple years and then coming back to the NBA a better player.

Quincy to me, is an Eddie House type. Poor ball handling but deadly from the arc. However, without ever getting any minutes he is a chucker, as KIE said earlier looking confused at least half of the time. I know he has range and can even get to the basket at times, but his lack of size and experience (I think I read he only started playing ball his junior year of HS or something?). His ability to stretch the defense when a team goes small might prove beneficial, but I also think there are many other guards who dont quite fit the league and never get beyond fringe. I am wanting to compare his situation to Rashad, but with less size and grit.

I don't think he's an NBA caliber player right now.

he has tons of potential, but cant hit shots when people are watching. he only does good in practice.

his downfall was theus giving him like 3 game winning shots in a row. some of those he didnt even step into the game before that shot. he was set up to fail.

Thanks guys, sounds like what I expected but hopefully he'll put it together when he gets some experience under his belt.

I think he looks more like a mosquito..

The kid can shoot but i don't think he can do much else. He showed us Kings fans that he can score but in the time he was given he didn't produce as was expected of him and that is why he got cut. Too many players can do what he did and for his size, he has to play bigger than he really is. Good luck to him and hopefully he can find whatever he was missing in toronto.

Douby didn't get cut because he sucked. He was not needed after we signed Beno to be PG and then Petrie brought back Bobby Jackson as the bench 1/2 for what looked like the next couple years. That was why Douby was the expendable.

When he gets minutes like in summer league he produces. If you don't get the touches you can't really score. John Salmons scored only 4 pts a game his first 4 years in the league and finally he was traded and didn't have to play with Allen Iverson he produced. There are only so many touches in any team.

I never understand why people say that guy who plays on a crummy team (like Blake Griffin or Anthony Randolph) puts up 20 after getting all the touches in summer league is a future all star. But another guy who suceeds in the same situation (like Douby or Evans or Thompson or Greene) is not an NBA player.

I woud take Beno over both.

I think Douby will be the most improved player one year, be a sixth man type. That's probably weird but he's got the talent he just needs to figure something out, and when he does he could be a really nice player.

I don't think SL is a great way to gage what a player is capable of but you are absolutely correct in saying that players like Randolph and Griffin get the respect for their SL stats while players from Sac get none.

On the right team, with the right coach I think he could put it together and be a good scorer off the bench. Eddie House is a apt comparrison. I always thought Douby had good potential, but it just didn't work out here. I hope he can be successful elsewhere.
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

Douby SUCKS. He couldn't even get minutes on a crappy team. Big thumbs down for whoever brought this thread back.
