Garnett now will get more minutes......

Post#1 » by Kefa461 » Thu Mar 26, 2009 12:13 pm

.......next week.

The Celtics hope to see about eight more minutes of Kevin Garnett per game next week.
Garnett has been relegated to about eight minutes each in the first and third quarters since returning against San Antonio March 20. Celtics coach Doc Rivers, however, said next week the All-Star will begin receiving four additional minutes each in the second and fourth quarters. Rivers called the added minutes "the second stage" and a positive sign that Garnett is back completely. Garnett missed 13 games with a sprained right knee suffered at Utah Feb. 19.

ps...Guard Tony Allen, who missed his 19th straight game after left thumb surgery (non-shooting hand), made the two-game road trip. Rivers is hopeful Allen could return to game action in two weeks. Allen said he will see a doctor Monday in hopes of getting a new brace that will allow him to do more basketball-wise, but right now he can't catch a hard pass.

If KG plays in the 4th last night down the stretch, we win that game, no doubt...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

I agree about if he played last night late in the game, then we would've won, thats why I was upset at Doc. Thanks for protecting him, but you could've put him in the last 4 or 5 minutes and it would've made a BIG difference.

That possession where BBD was demanding the ball from Ray Allen definitely shows how we miss KG. BBD got the pass and then lost control of the ball and couldn't shake the defender then forced up a bad shot. IF that was KG, then I feel it would've been a make.

Granted, that is only one example, but with KG in the last few minutes of the game would've given us the no. 2 seed. I think Doc is taking this too far, we need as much HCA as possible and losing last night hurt. We better get the number 2 seed. If we get stuck with the 3rd seed, that will make everything much harder. The 1st round would be more difficult, THEN WE'D HAVE TO PLAY ON THE ROAD THE ENTIRE REMAINDER OF THE POSTSEASON, more than likely.

I'm not saying throw KG in there for 38 minutes, I think he could've played 24 and we could've won. Hopefully he's 100% though.

IF Doc was going to play KG more minutes last night he cant just throw him the last 5 minutes. Have him play the first few minutes in 4th. Then come back in with 4 or 5 to go and kick some serious ass.

Actually 3rd seed might be better than 2nd...3rd seed plays Philly...2nd gets Detroit...so there is a slight chance Detroit beats Orlando since they pretty much owned them in the regular season..3rd seed really isn't that bad..the difficulty upgrade from being 3rd rather than 2nd is like 1%...

Makes sense.

The fundamental thing here is that you finish an important game with your best team on the floor. Limiting KG's minutes is fine, but if he's going to play 16 minutes, 4 of them should be at the end of the game.

exactly, and i have no idea.. when a timeout was called, 90 seconds left and down 1 you dont put KG on the floor, if you wanna get a stop thats your guy..

is there some huge leap between 18 and 19.5 minutes im missing?

the more KG is on the floor the better (obvious point though i suppose)

Yeah, i realize that after looking at the standings earlier. i have already stated this in the Orlando tiebreaker thread.

But i still want KG to play a little more each game til he gets back to normal.

I hear what you are saying. I don't know what Doc was thinking. Break it up a little better like you are saying. I understand Doc wanting KG to play with the starters. That is who he plays with 90% of the time. Where Rondo,Ray and paul all play significant minutes with the second unit. IF KG were to play the last 5 minutes of the ORL game we win. I can't help but repeat that.

I didn't see the game but according to Maxwell Garnett was having trouble walking up and down the court at the end of his 2nd half stint, almost dragging his leg and wincing as if walking on sharp rocks..... doesn't sound like he would have helped as much as you may think.

Also the fact that Garnett did not play last night would seem to indicate that Max's observations were on target - that Garnett is not good to go and if anything suffered a reinjury or at least a set back. Grande mentioned an awkward play in which Garnett had to snag an errant alley-oop and redirected it to the perimeter as possibly the play that triggered the pain/immobility.

As I said, this is what I heard so was hoping to see what is on the this board. But it seems only Max and Grande noticed???
