Pre-game ritual

Post#1 » by jcrysdale63 » Thu Mar 26, 2009 10:00 pm

Do Deron Williams or Carlos Boozer have a pre-game ritual, something they do on the court right before tip off? An Example of this would be LeBron throwing up the chalk at the scorers table or Dwyane Wade doing a pull up to the rim.

i doubt sloan would allow it if anybody did. he doesn't like things that bring attention to the individual. ie headbands, rubber-bands etc.

Okay, thanks for reply.

I honestly don't like what LeBron and Vince do, trying to draw all the attention. And I like how Sloan runs his team for the most part. Some players like Duncan, just do their own little thing. He cradles the ball for a few seconds and talks to it.

Yeah, no garbage, just hand shakes and the jump ball. No dancing or anything, everyone jumps into eachother during the announcement of the starting line up but that's about it.

C'mon, there is no room for individualism in a blanket authoritarian culture like Utah led by the valliant Illinois redneck himself... Jerry Sloan. That sort of stuff is frowned upon 'round here... just go to work with a hardhat and lunchpail mentality and get 'er dun.

Oh please...

I think that LeBron's chalk thing is one of the lame.

It's a rip off of KG, which kind of bothers me... but I absolutely hate conformity. It's a good thing when someone can express themselves when in front of 20K fans who just dropped a couple bills to watch the game live.

If they want to make the game worth the money all they have to do is win. I could give a damn about some chalk. I watch The Jazz for the team not some self-serving superstar.

Maybe the Jazz should change their uniforms to white underwear and they should remove their names. :P

Look, I don't really care about chalk rituals or whatever, but I do like to see a little individualism and entertainment value.

Also, you need that individualism in the game. After all, how do you expect to have a go-to guy late in the 4th that has the ego and drive to win by sheer will if their ego has been turned into sheep wool?

I don't mind celebrations on the floor, after good plays or anything like that, but before the game with a bunch of people posing for fake pictures that's lame. Especially when it's a rip off of the American relay race team from a few years back.

I love touchdown dances, a stare down after a dunk in someone's face, but don't try to show up the other team before the jump ball has even happened.

A little individualism isn't a bad thing but keep it on the court. If you've had a good game go ahead and do your big balls dance. Speak your mind in interviews, that's something nobody but Shaq does nowadays, but pre-game rituals seem petty to me.

Deron Williams gives a fist bump to the media guys on the scores table before going out on the court. Boozer will wipe both his feet and then smack the scores table with his right hand before he goes out on the court too. So yes they do have a pregame ritual.

Yeah, nobody ever thought of that before.

You know, KG or Jordan. Lebron is awesome. Just like how he made that shot after 58 tries on 60 minutes.

Awesome.

Ok, but how about this...

Contrivedness is self regulated by taste. Conformity is enforced by power. I prefer taste over oppresion as a means to regulate expression.
