Yup. He was a pretty big disappointment this entire tournament. He just doesn't have an arsenal of ball fakes and fancy footwork at his disposal. He just ducks his head and drives to the basket, or he pulls up and shoots over people... and he's not all that great of a shooter.
He's an excellent athlete and plays good defense. He'll definitely pan out to be a solid pro. But I'm less convinced of his star potential.
Tyreke Evans may have just passed him on my draft board.

There is no way i would taken Henderson over a guy like Derozan. You can see how much Derozan improved this season and if he can ever develop a jump shot to compliment his athletic abilities...look out.
Henderson is a safe pick and probably a starter in the league but you can probably see his ceiling.
This is looking more and more like a 1 man draft. I do believe Griffen is a better prospect that Rose or Beasley so if we win the lottery, its actually a great draft.
Im afraid the Wiz might go on a run and ruin their chances which would be a terrible way to end the season

Evans made himself a lottttto money last night. He's one of those players that's hard to evaluate - because he was playing out of position when he was at the point, and he's just 19 and makes lots of 19 year old mistakes. But he's got great size and explosive athleticism - and seems to have a feel for the game at both ends. Once he learns the game, he could easily be the 2nd best player from this draft.
Henderson showed he - like Harden - needs a good PG to set things up for him. He cannot create his own offense on a regular basis. Btw, was Coach K out-coached or what last night. I was embarrassed for the ACC.

Look for Henderson to be on the next list of Tournee players who's stock has dropped in the next draft mock.

Re: The RealGM Wizards Board Draft Thread 2008/2009
From what I saw last night, Evans is or should clearly be ahead of Henderson.
We were switched to the Duke-Nova game when it started but in the first
few minutes of the Mem game, Evans did nothing (except miss one possibly
ill advised 3) to diminish his stock IMO. 2 spin move drives to the hoop looked
really nice. Another drive-dish looked good as well. This kid can play.
I don't know if he's really 6-6 like they were saying and maybe that's not crucial.
The point is, he's got near SG size and near PG skillz. And he's 19 and a frosh.
He could end up being pretty special. 6-4 super athletes like Henderson OTOH,
are a dime a dozen in the NBA.
I got tired and turned off the Duke-Nova game still in the 1st half. Henderson
was NOT asserting his will on the game. I tivo'd it so I'll watch it later.
Tonight we get Zona vs Mem in what should be enlightening re Hill, Bud and TWilliams.
'nother quick subject to bring up
There was a little talk above about 'Gody. I think many of the things said
about him apply to T-bro as well. He's had an amazing college career but
the things he's done don't project to be nearly as do-able at the next level.
I wonder which one gets drafted first and which one has greater success in
the NBA.

If the Wizards don't get the 1st and and decide to trade down to dump songaila and stevenson I'd rather they select Tyreke Evens instead of Gerald Henderson. Evens is a phenominal penetrater and can get to the hole vertially at will. One of the most demoralizing things to a defense if dribble penetration. With a healthy Gil and Evens in the backcourt together they'd be able to breakdown even the toughest defenses.
On a side note if you put Songaila into spell check the first suggestion listed is snail, fitting.

DeRozan is an interesting prospect, but I tend to think of him as a Joe Alexander type prospect. One who has incredible athletic ability, has good size for the wing, can jump like crazy, and at times looks like a good player. However as great an athlete that DeRozan is he only shot something like <15% from beyond the arc and really isn't that good of a shooter all together. He's not an overly skilled player. I am afraid his athletic ability is fools gold. He needs another year to try and develop a shot.

while I still think Draft-express has the best NBA draft website going,
I'm struck how they could still have us picking Harden with the #2 pick.
This guy may well become a serviceable NBA player, but he ain't worth the
#2 pick in this draft.

When was it last updated? Take a look at their blogs during the NCAA Tournament, they have some snippets of who is falling and rising. I highly doubt Harden will be the #2 pick in their next mock draft, maybe not even top 10. Would not be surprised if they have Terrence Williams, Blair, Henderson all in the lottery.

I agree. Evans is top 5 pick material IMO. He does everything that I'd look for in a guy that can play alongside Gilbert. He's got the size, skillset, explosiveness and scoring ability to complement Gil on both sides of the court.

Dat I Agree, the two players in the draft for me are Griffin then Evens. Other than those two I just can't get excited about anyone else.

I'd throw T Williams in there too. Similar qualities to Evans, possibly a
better defender though.
and Nate would want us to remember Turner

WIlliams is a really solid player, but not sure if you've noticed he doesn't have much of a handle and doesn't have a first step. Those are MUST HAVES in the NBA if you aren't a 3 point shooter. I don't see him becoming much. He actually reminds me of Ed O'Bannon.

I don't think either of those are accurate criticisms of Williams. He's got a great first step and a good handle. He routinely brings the ball up under pressure, as he or Sosa are the best ball handlers on the team. He turns the ball over in traffic sometimes, when he drives into the lane, but he's improved on that markedly over the last couple of years. Most of his turnovers today (which are pretty low for a primary ball handler) come from aggressive passing.

Re: The RealGM Wizards Board Draft Thread 2008/2009
Per-40 Pace Adusted stats for Williams vs Evans:
Terrance Williams (21 years old, Big East stats) -- 12.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 2.7 steals, 0.9 blocks, 2.7 turnovers, 1.9 personal fouls
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Ter ... liams-507/
Tyreke Evans (19 years old, Conf USA stats) 22.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 2.8 steals, 1.1 blocks, 4.8 turnovers, 3.1 personal fouls
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Tyr ... 110/stats/
Based on that particular comparison alone, IMO, as Evans matures and cuts down turnovers, he'd rate the far superior prospect because he can create his shot, get to the line, and also defend. My concern would be that he's young, turnover prone, and thinks like a shooter more than a passer. Better prospect than Williams, but for next year's Wizards I don't think he'd be the better fit, necessarily.
OTOH, Terrance Willams doesn't turn it over, doesn't foul, distributes very smartly, rebounds like a beast, and CAN play PG next to a shoot-first type like Gil right away. As strong as he is, Williams is ready for the NBA grind.
I'd be very happy with EITHER GUY on the Wizards.
I really like Williams mistake-free approach and his maturity, and the fact that he's done it against much tougher competion than Evans. Might be wrong but I'm thinking at 22 by draft night, he's a little more prepared than Evans.
I gotta admit that I could be real wrong on this one, because Evans is a baller.

As much as I love Williams, there's no doubt you pick Evans over him if they're both on the board. Williams is a trade-down type of guy, even though he'd be great next to Gilbert.

CCJ, good breakdown of Williams and Evens. It appears that Williams is the safer, more steady player where as Evens is the better prospect with much more potential. Evens is the quintessential EG prospect; raw but extremely talented with great potential.

I really am not intrigued by hill that much. He has great athletic ability and good frame, but does not use all the time. I just had to say that. Dont see a good motor.
I just got done watching B. Griffin against Syracuse's zone defense and he still managed 30+ pts and 15 boards and a couple of NASTY dunks, one that he hit his head on the backboard on the way up (LOL)
I dont want to get my hopes up for him though.
I LOVE T WIll, and like someone else said, he DOES have a great first step and is getting better at his jump shot. He is a high flying scorer/playmaker and would be a good compliment next to gil.
Tyreke Evans is a good player but he should stay one more year, just to mature a little.
Rubio is still a guy that i like and would not mind drafting, for our roster or as trade bait. I know Gil needs the ball in his hands but sliding him to the 2 and having a guy like Rubio making easier for him to get the ball might work out. I just like the kid, fun to watch.
