Jets already brought in Reche Caldwell, and signed our 7th rd pick which was cut. And have signed a bunch of guys from us last year, and then let alone having magini as their coach and one of our guys becoming the quarterbacks coach for them.

As a pats fan, this is really really annoying, yet complimentary, and its been going on for years with the jets. The jets seem to be the patriot jrs of the league now.

My questions are, how much of an impact does this stuff actually have on teams? Can reche really help the jets that much with the information he knows? Do the players purposely go to the jets or other teams to spite the patriots or whatever team they played for previously? Does this happen to any other team as much as the patriots? And how does the team who released the guy who then goes to the rival team or whoever, deal with it?

Mangini learned under Belichek, so he most likely learned Bill's philosophy on players or they both have the same philosophy thus leading to them liking the same kind of players. To say players purposely go to the jets to spite the patriots is completely absurd.

i know that. duh. I'm talking strictly about getting information from them. I know they like similar players and are alot alike, that is part of the reason, but obviously gathering information is a big one. I'm wondering how much of an emphasis that is put on around the league.

and i never said that players purposely go to the jets to spite the patriots. I just asked if this was the case with ex pat players,AND/OR other players going from one team to a rival team or whatever being spiteful.

Very little. Aside from divulging some insider information (like who is nursing a hidden injury, who's been sucking ass in practice, what kind of cereal pisses Logan Mankins off), there is nothing that somebody like Caldwell could give up that couldn't already be ascertained from watching film on the team. Trick plays, maybe, but even that's a stretch.

No. Not really. See above.

I think "spite" is the last thing on the mind of a recently-cut player. "Collecting a paycheck" is probably first on their mind.

Yes, protege and disciple coaches often pick up players dropped by their mentor coaches. Mostly because, as fatty said, they already know the philosophy of the new team...assuming it's the same as the prior team. It happened a lot to the Niners in the 1980s and 1990s.

Probably change around a few trick plays. Other than that, there really isn't much to change.
