Seth Curry will transfer from Liberty to Duke

Post#1 » by magicfan4life05 » Sun Mar 29, 2009 11:47 pm

He's the younger brother of Stephon Curry. I'm not sure how big of a deal this is, but it was breaking news on SportsCenter.

How much can he help Duke or will he even make a difference with them?

Also, how much is he helping himself by making this decision? (1 thing I know for sure he'll get is more national exposure)

I'll get a link when it's available.

magic fan it appears to be a pretty BIG Deal! Seth led the entire Nation in freshman scoring at over 20 PPG. He can't play until '10-'11 season but with what Duke already had coming in then and what will/could be coming back, man It's a Great day to be a Duke fan, I'm so glad of this news, I've been down in the dumps since Nova drilled us!

Duke already in '10 is getting.

COMMITTED/NOT YET SIGNED Pos Stars Ht Wt RR Video Hometown
4* Andre Dawkins SG 6-4 190 - Chesapeake, VA
5*Joshua Hairston PF 6-8 195 - Spotsylvania, VA
4* Tyler Thornton PG 6-2 180 - Washington, DC

Add to that that Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler if things go as planned would be Seniors, and Elliot Williams and Mason Plumlee and Olek will be Jr's.

RK will be a stud, I think it may take him a little longer to develop than it did Singler though but he will be another point forward type of athlete.

Also if you have not seen Andre Dawkins play, he has sick game, he can jump like Gerald Henderson and has a nice J like Wayne Ellington which makes a sick combo, he is basically a taller Ellington with more skills.

Keep in mind when looking at Duke's signees that they are almost always given that extra star as part of the "Duke tax". Plus they are probably white. As for Seth Curry, I like it for the Dukies. I hate Duke, but Curry is legit and should give Duke a little star power.

I actually believe that he is going to come in and learn to be more of a role player. He should average in double digits, but at the same time, I do not expect him to be the star player on a team with such high ranking recruits. That is, unless his game transforms to the level of his brother. Liberty and Duke are as far apart as you can get in Division 1 basketball in terms of the liberty he is going to be given offensively imo. However, judging by how many three point shots Duke has taken in recent years, he will get his fare share of shot attempts.

I gotta give Seth major props for this, especially when it comes to his education, which he seems to care about.

Seth and his family are ultra religious, and Liberty is a ridiculously religious university. However, it's also looked at as a big joke academically, and many of the graduates have problems getting jobs in their respective fields because of it.

Liberty claims to have things like "3000 year old Dinosaur bones", and "footprints of men next to dinosaurs", which is utterly (Please Use More Appropriate Word). In a lecture Dr. Richard Dawkins was doing about Biology at a neighboring University, the crowed was mainly composed of Liberty students. When the fact they claim to have 3000 year old dinosaur bones was brought up, he went on to explain how they could prove this, how it was impossible, and a disgrace to science, then told everyone from Liberty to "I suggest anyone who does go to Liberty, leave, and go to a proper university". It's on youtube.

I know it must have been hard for him to make the decision, but it will benefit him. Duke is a great place to earn your education, and also has a much better basketball team. It will help his NBA dreams as well.

Props to Seth on the tough move. Hopefully it works out for him.

Seth is going to bring back Duke basketball to championship form. Hes a scorer and we all know Coach K is gonna recruit the hell out of players for two seasons down the road when seth can play for Duke.

Its going to be so exciting again. sheyer and singler will probably be gone, but if they stay...wow.

So I go to Liberty University and I must say I am sad to have Seth go. Seth is a great player and I only wish him the best at Duke. It would have been great to see what Seth would have done at Liberty. I really think him and the other great freshmen we got in the recruiting class would have been pretty special in a few years. We were all kind of hoping we could do what Davidson did in the tourney. However, I must say I understand why he is leaving. He said in his statement about leaving Liberty that he wants to play in better competition. I totally understand that since Liberty is in the Big South and the Big South sucks. I feel the Big South is holding us back and I wish we could move up into a better conference soon. Now I just want to say before I end this that Liberty is a great school. It defiantly isn't for everyone. Seth said he loved Liberty. I don't know if what Trax416 says is true because I don't remember it. I am only a sophomore so it may have been before my time. I don't want to get into a big religious argument over dinosaurs so lets just end it. I mean we are talking about Seth here. I don't think we need to bash anyone school or beliefs on Realgm. There are plenty of message boards you can argue about religion. So yeah thanks for reading. I am sorry it was kind of long. haha

If people want to discuss religion, that is best for one of the off topic boards.

This is certainly a good signing for Duke if he ends up being anything like his brother.

Thanks for the video Trax416. Obviously I don't know you but I would assume you are an atheist. I can now see why you have the opinions you do about Liberty and Christianity. However, I am not going to argue about religion right now because once again I don't think the realgm NCAA basketball forum is not the right place for it. The one thing I would like to address is what you said about Liberty earlier. What you said is that you felt Liberty was a "big joke academically." Now while you do have the right to your own opinion, I must say I felt this very disrespectful. I hope you don't go off one video on YouTube to make a judgment about Liberty. Just because it is Christian school doesn’t mean it is a joke academically. That is all I am going to say about that.

Once again I just want to wish Seth the best. I know it must have been a hard decision for him. I hope he succeeds at everything he does at Duke. I also hope one day to see him in the NBA.

Living in NC i saw a lot of Kelly and Plumlee. Duke fans are gonna love Kelly. The Singler comparison is spot on, I also think that Kelly has more length than Singler and will probably give him an edge in scoring the ball and finishing.

Plumlee I don't know what to expect. He didn't really WOW me whenever I saw him play. He does have some jaw dropping tools but never seem to put it together whenever I saw him play. With his size and athleticism he should be putting up much bigger numbers than I saw him play. I don't expect him to be the answer to Duke's lowpost problems, but a very good player nonetheless.

As far as Dawkins, I would not put those expectations on him as a taller Ellington with more skills. He is still very raw. Last season on his AAU team he played the Bobby Frasor role for Boo Williams, in he was expected to come in make some 3's and play good D but not take over the game. He has a lot of work to do on his handles and passing. Right now it's either a dunk or a long three for him. He does have the potential to be better than Ellington, but I don't think he is as good as Elliot Williams at the same stage.

Seth Curry to Duke is a very big deal. He and Tyler Thornton (big fan of Thornton!) will mesh well together in the backcourt.
