Detroit the 3th best team in East?

Post#1 » by klemen4 » Mon Mar 30, 2009 3:43 pm

I think they are. They still got the same core(minus Billups, plus Iverson). Besides Boston, only they play team basketball, are experienced playoff veteran team and when healthy I think they are better than Orlando and Atlanta.

Im posting this threat because I would hate to face them in first round and as the results were in last games 6th or 8th...there will they finish.

Lets look at the schedules:

PHI
37w-35l
5home (Atl,Mil,Det,Cle,Bos)
5away (Njn,Cha,Chi,Tor,Cle)

Philly has a very hard schedule despite 5 home games (Atl,Det,Cle,Bos). Also Cha,Chi,Cle all competitive away games.

DET
36w-37l
3home (Cha,Njn,Chi)
6away (Cle,Njn,Phi,Ny,Ind,Mia)

Since Hamilton return(also Iverson) they won last 2 and with healthy Wallace they could go 6th if Philly struggles. If they win Chicago home game, than out of other 8 games they need to go 5-3 to be in front f Chicago.

CHI
36W-39l
5home (Ind,Njn,Ny,Phi,Tor)
2away (Ind,Det)

With 4 games behind Philly (and even if they win Philly at home they will have worst Conference record) they should go 6-1 and Philly 4-6 to finish one game in front.

Tiebreakers:
Chicago is 1-2 vs.Phi and 2-1 vs.Det.
Detroit is 1-1 vs Phi

Lets wait and see, but I have a bad felling we will finish 2th and Detroit 7th...lets hope Im wrong

Yes the pistions record in not impressive but on paper (like I said, ON PAPER) they do have enough talent to be a contender.

I would rather the celtics keep the 3rd seed and play the sixer in round 1. Let the magic play the pistons because the Pistions could very well beat the magic in the first round.

Yeah I agree with this...I would do everything possible to avoid Detroit in the first round...a hungry Allen Iverson in the playoffs scares me quite a bit..not to mention Richard Hamilton, Prince, Sheed, McDyess....Detroit will make some noise in the playoffs...book it...

Problem is, the Pistons chemistry never got established this season. Also, none of the older guys will really be healthy. They may play, but won't be at the level we're used to. I, of course, as a Pistons fan wish otherwise, but I'm not holding my breath

Considering they never really seemed to have a dominant stretch this season I'm not convinced that they'll suddenly turn the corner in the play-offs. I'd rather face Philly or Chi for sure, but Detroit just doesn't scare me that much. I don't think anyone can overlook them either, but they're at best the 4th best team in the east, maybe 5th behind the Hawks.

This isn't the old DET laying in the weeds.

This is a team with not chemistry history that has yet to find any.

They'd need to face ORL in the first round, continue to work their magic against them, find a perfect chemistry at the most luckiest of time in the second round. And only then can they possibly be the third best team.

Not even close. Orlando is much better than Detroit and so is Atlanta.
