Which WR do you want the Bears to draft ?

Post#1 » by Pax for Prez » Sun Mar 29, 2009 3:06 am

I'm assuming that M. Crabtree & J. Maclin will be off the board by the time the Bears are on the clock .

Who do you want them to take ???

Britt. Kenny Britt. 6'3", 218lbs. Timed as fast as 4.40 at his pro day. Goes for the extra yard, catches with his hands, knows how to stiff-arm tacklers, goes down to get balls despite his height, punishing blocker, This ain't rocket science, boys...BRITT IS YOUR GUY.

I'd be happy with any from that list, but I went with Britt. He's the safest pick; a big body who can go over the middle, get yac, and make blocks.

I'm on the Percy Harvin bandwagon now. I think he is going to give an offense everything Reggie Bush does but more and with Forte & Olsen that will make for a good offense.

I like Britt as well. There is not much to dislike with Britt, but I just really like Harvin the more I watch his highlights and what he can do.

I'm still sour on how Britt was committed to Illinois and decided to switch to Rutgers the day before signing day, because of his HS girlfriend.

OT - I had a dream the other day the Bears traded a 2nd and 3rd round pick for DeSean Jackson. I was so hungover that I didn't know if I was tweaking or what, but I had to check RealGM. Of course, I was disappointed and I don't even really like DeSean Jackson.

I'd be happy with Britt or Nicks. Everyone seems to say that DHB is raw and needs time to develop. That's really not what we need. Hopefully we can trade down and get Britt or Nicks and grab a late second round pick so we can go S and OT in round 2.

My first choice would be Nicks based on his great hands and ability to be elusive to gain additional yards after the catch.

I was traumatized by too many dropped passes last season and would like a more sure handed receiver in the fold this year.

If we wind up with Britt, Heyward-Bey or any of the others on the list it would be great since we would have drafted a receiver in the first round.
A plea for post scoring is a plausible Bulls plan, but plainly isn't a priority. In response to a post player's dismay about his lack of points in the paint, Paxson said.... "I'm not nearly as concerned about the offensive stuff as he is."

I should add that it's not a given that Maclin won't be there at #18.

If he's there it becomes a very tough decision.

I think if Maclin is there, you grab him and don't look back.

would anyone be upset if we took 2 WRs on day 1? I'd actually be in favor of bringing in two WRs. One to push for the starting job and one to push Davis. IMO we only have three receivers on the team now in Hester, Davis & Bennett.

I would like 2 WR on draft day, but I am not crazy about grabbing 2 WRs in the 1st two rounds.

That would give the Bears Hester, Bennett, #1, & #2 and I don't see the Bears using a four WR set often, especially with TE G. Olsen in the mix.

I think one of those high picks could be used on a DE, FS, OT or QB and it would be more beneficial to the teams developement.

Just my 2 cents ......

You realize Day 1 is the first two rounds of the draft, right?

I guess if we drafted a WR in Rd1 and a guy unexpectedly slipped in Rd2, you take a look but - wow - I don't know about that. I wouldn't be upset per se....more surprised than anything.

Nope. didn't realize that. Having not watched the draft last year I feel totally out of touch. I thought day 1 was 1-3. I revise my question to say 2 WR in our first 4 picks?

With Hester, Bennett and Davis.....please draft 2 WRs on Day 1.

in my mind, hester is the only sure keeper on our team a wideout, and even he is not all that great. i like brandon rideau, and think he should be in the mix. davis and bennett are nothing. we need two new wideouts, and if we can sign pace and lucas, i would be happy if we went wideout in the first 2 rounds and finally be done with the position. and the two could push each-other battling for PT. draft britt and nicks and pair with hester, and we would have an interesting offense.
We have Martell Webster. He's called Kyle Korver here, and we shall love him and squeeze him and call him Ashton. -BrooklynBulls

With Nicks dropping and Heyward-Bey being reported as pretty raw, it's looking like Britt and his size should be the pick. It would sure be nice to trade down in order to get him though in exchange for a little move-up in the 2nd or 3rd.

Now that we have Cutler and WR is still a big priority, who do you think the Bears should select? Brian Robiskie and Derrick Williams could be added to this list as possibilities. I'm hoping for someone like Nicks to fall to us.

I was looking at past drafts and it looks like at #49 the Bears should be able to draft between the 7th WR to the 9th WR. Here's how I think the top 9 WRs are grouped.

1. M. Crabtree
2. J. Maclin

3 - 6
K. Britt
H. Nicks
D. Heyward Bey
P. Harvin

7 - 9
D. Williams
B. Robiskie
L. Murphy

I'm hoping we sign T. Holt or move up higher in rd 2 to draft a Top 6 WR !!

Thoughts ??

I don't think we should move up because we would have to lose more picks to do so, and WR's are a big gamble. If one of the more highly regarded WR's falls to us, then take him. If not, then draft a key defensive player assuming we have already signed a veteran WR.

Sure would be nice to be able to sign Holt then grab Harvin in order to use as a slot receiver and backup running back.

QB: Cutler
WR1: Holt
WR2: Hester
WR3: Harvin/Bennett
RB1: Forte
RB2: Harvin

Yum.
