Have you noticed, that Pierce has assisted on all of Ray "game winning shots" in Boston? Pierce is such a smart basketball player. He realizes defenses are going to close on him and leave Ray wide open. Ray's lucky.

I can't find the youtube link for Ray's four attempts doing that in his Celtic career. But I'll give you the run down.

Inbound pass to Ray. Ray dribbles. Double team comes. Ray can't dribble out of it. Ray chucks a leaning 3 over the outstretched hand of a 7 footer. Shot missed. I remember that failure of Ray Allen creating his shot for a game winner clearly... because they should of gave it to Pierce. That was last year.

This year there was the Laker overtime game, Ray Allen catch, can't dribble. Fisher pokes the ball. Ray leans and shoots and falls and fails.

There was one other where he had to create for himself. Ray caught the ball and was inside the 3 point line. He hit a tough mid range leaner off of maybe 1 dribble and succeeded.

Which I'm just technically couting... the defense was non-existent on that play.. but for Ray fans I'll count it.

Ray Allen is in third overall but also leads in most 3's made under our game winning defined situation specifics, with eight (9 now) three pointers. Long live the NBA's arguably best pure shooter (Ray also currently leads the NBA in Midrange 2pt FG%).

Ray has always been great in game winning situations he has been 2nd since they started keeping track of it. He actually with last nights make is shooting 41% in game winning situations over the last 6 years. With last night, I believe his 3rd, he has actually ranked in the top 5 in makes 4 of those 6 years.

Paul Pierce is an exception as he stands at the head of the class for 'game winning assists' with nine, ahead of Nash, Kidd, Billups, and the rest.

These are two of the best closers in the game who have become ruthlessly efficient since joining forces. But Ray was a great sniper before Pierce and Pierce was great combo of finisher and playmaker before Ray.

Why the hell you can't appreciate having both is beyond me.

Ray also knows how to get himself open. Yesterday - if he stayed stationary when the help came, he wouldn't have been open. But he flared into the corner, so Wallace couldn't get back in the play. Yeah - he ended up open on the catch, but he created some of that luck. Same way he knows how to get open on screens.

Earlier in his career, he'd be equally dangerous taking it to the hole in game-winning situations. Ask Tracy McGrady - this was a tying shot in the last 10 seconds of a playoff game (the video is fuzzy). He doesn't have that same explosiveness any more.

Pierce is definitely the better player to have the ball in his hands since he creates his own shot better, but it makes his life easier to have a guy you can't help off of. Either the driving lanes open for Pierce, or Ray is open on the kick-out.

Ask any Charlotte fan (or Philly fan earlier this year) how they felt when Ray got the ball in his hands open in that situation. I guarantee they were saying "oh #%$#^%" long before the ball went in.

Ray Allen represents what you read and often hear people say of certain perimeter players. A shooter just keeps shooting. And that's what Ray did last night. Imagine if he'd allowed his missed threes to bother him? This is the attitude that Rondo needs to adopt to become a tad better shooter than he is now.

This game's what makes Ray Allen a great NBA player to watch. He's a pure shooter while others are just scorers. They haven't seen a shot that they didn't like. But, Ray you can tell practices his craft to the point that his shooting is like making a layup. I mean it can get to the point when you as a fan are surprised that he doesn't make a long distance shot. Huh? What?! He missed it... No. Not Ray Allen! You must be talking about House.
