1.round opponent tracking thread!

Post#1 » by klemen4 » Thu Apr 2, 2009 4:29 pm

I was looking at all the schedules of teams from 5th to 9th place to get a feeling who will finish 6th or 7th as our first round opponents. I would love to play against Philadelphia (now even more when Young will probably miss playoffs because of the injury), Miami or Chicago. Big NO to Detroit.

Man it is so hard to predict anything...but as I can see Philly has incredible hard schedule, followed by Miami, Detroit. I will root for Chicago to overtake Detroit, but it will be hard.

PHI

39w-35l
3home (Mil,Det,Cle,Bos)
5away (Njn,Cha,Chi,Tor,Cle)

MIA

39w-36l
3home (Ny,Norl,Det)
4away (Cha,Was,Bos,Atl)

DET
36w-39l
3home (Cha,Njn,Chi)
4away (Phi,Ny,Ind,Mia)

CHI

36W-40l
5home (Ind,Njn,Ny,Phi,Tor)
1away (Det)

CHA

34W-41l
2home (Mia,Phi)
5away (Det,Okl,Chi,Njn,Orl)

TIEBREAKERS:

PHI (2-2 Mia) / (1-1 Det, one home game left))
MIA (2-1 Det,one home game left))
DET
CHI (2-1 Det, one away game left, but a lot worst conference record)
CHA (2-0 Chi, one away game left / 1-2 Det, one away game left, but a lot worst conference record)

One scenario I will root for is Chicago winning all home games and then they can even lose away game at Detroit, but than Detroit must lose 3 games out of 6 (There are 4 options for a loss-Cha at home, Phi, Ind, Mia away...Njn at home and NY away they will win)

The other option is Detroit finishing so strong that they overtake Miami and Philadelphia, but for that to happen they should go like 6-1 in last 7 games(Winning at Mia and at Phi). Philadelphia should go 4-5 and Miami 3-4...that way all teams would have 42:40 record but Detroit would win both tie breakers.

I think
Miami will be 5
Philly at 6
Chi at 7
Det at 8

Chicago play will be decide most of the outcome.

Either way I think Cleveland, Boston, and Orlando will use the 1st round as a tune-up...and whoever is the 4 is going to get rolled in the second round...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

It would be sweet is Boston got Philly, Orlando got Detroit and Cleveland got Charlotte...Orlando and Cleveland would have 'hard' games with Charlotte and Detroit..they got match up problems on both those series..Orlando has not won a game against Detroit this year have they?? And Wallace,Diaw,Bell could really give LeBron a hard time...that would be a dream 1st round scenario for me in the playoffs...

Yeah, I don't want any part of Detroit or Charlotte in the first round. On the other hand, a Charlotte at Cleveland first round would be interesting. The Bobcats can alternate with putting either Gerald Wallace or Diaw on LeBron.

I'm impressed by the effort Charlotte is making toward trying to make the playoffs. If they do, the trade to acquire Diaw and Bell will rival the trade of Salmons and Miller to Chicago as the best trade this season. And the acquisitions of Radmanovic and Diop add good depth.

I always like to see historically bad NBA teams do something other than be in the lottery.

At the moment it looks like we either play Philly and lose home court to the magic, or get the 2nd seed and play detroit...

I really want the Magic to have to deal with the Pistons first up, but we obviously want home court as much as possible

That is a tough choice. Home court is big but there is a decent enough chance that detroit beats orlando giving us back the homecourt. Hmmm.

Thad Young is now out 2-3 weeks, if Detroit can get it together (probably not likely) we could end up with a perfect scenario of the number 3 seed magic playing the 6 seed Pistons

That is what Im hoping for. Well -9 Phi:Mil in 2 quarter, maybe Philly really will struggle in this last 9 games. Woow if the lose tonight against Mil, what about other top caliber teams'

Win streak BE GONE! Maybe that knocks their rhythm out a little bit since they got an away one with Orlando tomorrow...

IMO, Washington with 82 games of a healthy Gilbert Arenas is a playoff team in the east..easily...

Yes Philly took over in 2nd half..Milwaukee just dont have enough firepower to stand a chance in away games.

Looking the schedules Miami could have problems in last 7 games. I doubt they can go any better than 4-3. But as well they could go 2-5.
@ Charlotte L
@ Washington L (Hmm, with Arenas,Haywood)
New Orleans W/L (West,Chandler,Pedja???)
@ Boston L
NY Knicks W
@ Atlanta L/W (Atlanta could rest starters being safe nb. 4 seed)
Detroit W/L

But even if they go 2-5 with 41:41 record Detroit would need to go 5:2 (wining at Miami) to be in tie and be ahead because of a better conference record.

More a look at this standing more I think there are slim chances Detroit finishing better or worst than 7th. Damn.

Philly beat Detroit. Chicago won their game. At the moment Bulls take over the 7th seed and Detroit falls to 8th I believe. I'll take that....
