I really don't want to lose Ray Allen...

I know hes old, but he still has game. He plays more minutes than alot of the younger guys. Hes in great shape. He has a great attitude, hes probably the classiest player in professional sports, although obviously that arguable.

Ray has become my favorite player, since last year in the playoffs. This isn't even just about last nights heroics, although obviously this is a good time for Ray appreciation thread...

I guess if a trade came along that made us ALOT better, we'd have to do it, because you have to be smart......but I really don't want to do it...

does anyone else feel the same way?

I can tell you right off the bat that Pogue and Spud will come in here and crap all over this thread, though...those guys **** HATE Ray...

That would be nice! It's weird but Ray and KG have fit in so well as C's from day 1 that I only think of them as CELTICS...

I've warmed up to Ray. He is playing much better (read more within himself) this year. Last year way too many ray dribbling the ball up the court or demanding the ball and waiting for the double when its painfully obvious he can't turn the corner anymore. He still does it from time to time but less often. It will be interesting to see what price he demands

I think Ray'll be a C after next season if things continue to go the way they do, he's got the kind of game that can carry into his upper 30's much like Reggie Miller. He doesn't take a lot of contact and stays in great shape, and his shooting has only become more efficient over the years. His expiring contract coupled with his ability could be a great commodity next year... but that is the kind of trade made by poor teams planning on rebuilding with youth, not by a veteran contender. The only way I see Ray going is if the first half of next season is a disaster, then his value at the trade deadline could be worth a look, but that seems highly, highly unlikely to me. If we continue to contend and Ray will re-sign for reasonable money I can't see him wanting to leave or the C's wanting him to go. A shooter is replaceable, but Ray isn't just a shooter, he is one of the best shooters in the history of the game. I can't imagine a better duo at the end of a tight game than Pierce and Ray, the combination of Pierce driving and Ray on the perimeter is really difficult to defend and both of them deliver in the clutch amongst the best in the league. It's a luxury any coach would gladly take.

Ray is great when he is ON. However when he is off he can really hurt the team. He almost cost us a championship last year with his HORRIBLE play vs. the Cavs. PP had to bail him out with a superhuman effort against a physically superior player..

He needs to step up vs. the Cavs to win me over. The only way we beat the Cavs is if both Garnett and Ray Allen play up to potential. If Ray mails in one of his "slumps" again we are done for.

Last year he was off because of all the adjustments he made...IMO Ray Allen has had to sacrifice his game more than Pierce or Garnett..This is the guy who always had the ball in his hands back in Seattle and Milwaukee..now he is the guy that stays in the corner waiting for Pierce to drive and kick him ball...He is getting into the feel of things now and has gotten better than he was last year..he has been great all around, so I don't think we will have a slump from Ray in the playoffs...he is 100% adjusted to Boston Celtics ball now..

I love Ray, and hes a great Celtic but the options have to be looked at next season with him as an expiring... with KG and Pierce ageing we might need a younger guy whos more willing to take on a big scoring load night in night out in the regular season

however if there is no sure fire upgrade id love to keep him around

Don't know how many of you have kids but Ray's infant child was in the hospital and was diagnosed with diabetes during the CLE series. He wasn't sleeping and was flying all over the place. It is safe to say Ray has never had a series like that before, he has avg 46% from the field and 42% from 3 in the playoffs, and he did bounce back to against the Pistons and destroyed the Lakers.

Going beyond this contract with Ray is a risk, what I expect to have happen is Pierce to turn his option into a 3 year extension similar to Garnett's' allowing Boston to give the savings to Ray above the MLE roughly the 10 mil per on a two year deal putting him in line with Garnett's contract.

^Thank you for pointing out Ray had personal issues last playoffs. If I recall correctly wasn't he also dealing with the ongoing trial of the guy who hired a hitman to murder his dad? Heavy ****...

"Mail it in" isn't the best way to phrase it. But I think even if you take your positive view it has an element of truth. Why did Ray play so poorly (assuming it just wasn't suckitude) well he was so distracted by his son that he DID NOT CARE about basketball.

Did he give up on the team? I don't think so. But for that period either his heart wasnt in it or he was just playing awful. Either way lets hope THAT Ray Allen doesn't return this year vs. the Cavs. With the loss of Posey we need the All-Star wages of win stud Ray Allen to show up..

Pete, by that logic, then maybe when you're having one of those days when you have stress from your personal life on your mind and if affects your performance at work, you should just stay home and your boss shouldn't pay you?

Ray had a SLUMP, his first of the season, it happened to be in the playoffs...nothing more, nothing less...
