What's the MLE actually worth - dollar wise?

Atm it's $5,868,000 but that figure should change once the league sets the cap and other things etc..

The number coming to mind is 5.6 but that could be off a little bit. If the cap goes down like everyone is saying then that too would drop.

We're really talking minimal money, but the big difference is the fact that all the other teams can offer that as well. If we took a stance that "you're only worth the MLE and that's all we're paying" you're going to piss off a guy who will have better options and would otherwise be happy to stay put on a discount.

Perceptions (giving respect) means something too.

Edit: I defer to Chabber on the exact MLE...that sounds right.

So an offer of 3/20 woudl put him slighlty above the MLE - making him out of reach of all of the other teams who aren't under the cap, unless they wanted to get into the luxury area of the cap and pay the 1 for 1 penalty?

I just looked at my spreadsheet spectre. I keep it updated pretty often for the team although I haven't touched it since we signed Martin for the remainder of the year. It has our team salary, transactions, trades, league salary info and a rudimentary trade checker and fa offer calculator. I'll post it below. Feel free to play with it, update it and keep for cooking up ideas if you'd like.

^Absolutely. Personally I'd be thrilled if we got him for that.

Keep in mind tho that we gave him "power" by letting him get to RFA status. It's a concern that he takes the QO and becomes an UFA in '10...that year where all these teams will have money but (I'll bet) there won't be top tier players to spend it on.

Management knew that yet opted to let it play out. Hopefully it won't bite us in the arse.

Chabber you're awesome!

Tell you what...I'll send you a spreadsheet I worked up to help figure trades when one is a BYC player in return. It might be monday, but I'll make a note to get it to you...probably thru PM @ BCP.

Oh yeah, i remember you talking about that sheet. Sounds cool. I'll have to remember to check my bcp pm box. I'll have stuff in it and not even notice sometimes.

Heh, it's NOTHING compared to your sheet...I'm embarrased now to have even brought it up. This is sweet, and the colors make it so simple to follow. And all the information!

Thanks a bunch!

hmmm... maybe i did say that. if you've learned one thing about me over the years (besides my ridiculous love for euroball) its that i change my mind on players all the time. today, i'm sick of the fact that felton cant shoot and i love the fact that dj can shoot. ask me again in 2 weeks. i may be back on the felton bandwagon then.

its not like i'll be mad if we sign felton to a deal higher than the MLE. it means we are trying. it means we have an owner ready to spend money. and at worst we can always trade him later. i'm just saying that i dont think he's worth much more than the MLE, imo. but as ham, LOVES to point out, i once said the same thing about wallace and boy was a wrong on that one.

I am not worried about paying too much, within reason, for Felton. He is a legit PG and a valuable asset. If we ever decided to go in another direction I expect a great number of teams willing to take that contract off our hands. I am confident we will re-sign Felton to a fair contract anyway.
