Catcher??

Post#1 » by Ryanz24 » Fri Apr 27, 2007 6:58 am

Despite our obvious needs for pitching depth and bullpen help I sure would like to solidfy our catching posistion if this is to be a team that will challenge for a world series.

Sorry I cant remember but do we have someone coming up or should we look at going after someone like Saltalmacchia fromthe braves...

Thigpen isn't ready yet and should not be brought up. I imagine the team will try and gey by with Phillips and Fasano but another injury could force their hand. Another catcher, particularly a relatively young one, should be high on the wish list. Like anything else, however, any acquisition must be weighed against the likely cost. Like young pitching, the current cost of catching is a high one. Best best is go after a catcher from a team that develops serious problems in another area. A fair exchange may then become possible.

We don't need to overpay for a catcher right now. Thigpen is going to be a very solid and potentially very good major leaguer.
