What's up with Pistons
They are looking like a wounded duck. They've shut The Answer down. Kwame might be starting over Sheed. It looks like they are just trying to get to Free Agency and don't really care about the playoffs. I'm not sure it matters to them about the playoffs or at least it doesn't look that way.
3-7 in their last 10.
I don't think we can beat out Chicago but Detroit keeps coming farther back to us. Of course we need to win most if not all our games but I wouldn't be surprised if they handed their playoff spot away. Maybe it's for a higher draft pick because next year they could be loaded with all that free money.
Detroit finishes 2-5. Bobcats 5-1. We're in the playoffs!

Re: What's up with Pistons
Detroit plays Philly in Philly tomorrow afternoon on ESPN. That one is pivotal to have any chance of catching Detroit. The next night the Bobcats go into Detroit. Provided this Saturday and Sunday go our way Detroit has to lose 3 of their last 5...
at NY, 50/50
vs NJ, 60% Detroit
at Ind, 50/50
vs Chi, 50/50
at Mia, 40% Detroit
That is my estimation of Detroit's chances, but we definitely have a chance if Detroit continues to falter. The main challenge is going to be winning the ones we have coming up, especially if Raja isn't going.
at Det 40% Bobcats
vs Phi 60% Bobcats
at OKC 60% Bobcats
at Chi 40% Bobcats
at NJ 50/50
at Orl, all depends on if Orl rests their starters
Winning 5 of 6 is attainable, but is going to be a real challenge.
As for as Chicago, if we go 5-1, the Bulls have to go 3-3. There is an outside chance of this, but not great. Just assuming we won against Chicago and the Bulls lost in Detroit in their only road game, both considerable assumptions, the Bulls still have to lose at home with rest against NJ, NY, Philly, or Toronto. We'll see.

Re: What's up with Pistons
The Bulls just need to lose 2 if we go 5-1 as long as one of those losses is to the Bobcats. We own the tie breaker with them, so the same record gets us into the playoffs.
Winning the last two games would've put our chances very high, but a 5-1 record with only 1 game at home... that is not easy. Our chances of making the playoffs are oso slim right now.

Re: What's up with Pistons
They are playing like they don't care this season. Whether thats a lack of leadership. Look at Denver since getting Billups, and Detroit since trading him (says a lot about Billups) or Coaching or whatever is anyones guess. Although I would guess the Billups to Iverson thing.
I honestly don't want to see them go after the free agent market this year. If anything, go after all the teams looking to get out of the draft.
The Pistons play like they expect the other team to just lay down and let them win.
This entire season has driven me crazy. So much so that I'm actually starting to appreciate Kwame Brown.

Re: What's up with Pistons
Who owns the tiebreaker with Detroit if we beat them? 2-2 head to head. Does it go by division record. Is it possible for us to lose t-break to Chi?
It is more probable we would be able to beat out Chicago but I'm hoping for a Detroit 8 game losing streak to finish. They had one about a month ago.
Either way Det is in good position for the upcoming years. I always pulled against them in the championships bc they were not the exciting team. A good team that played really good D. Kind of like LB's present version of the Bobcats. They're a little easier to pull for being a homer and all.
I'll be watching and pulling against Detroit Sat at 3 on ESPN against the 76ers.

I'm not really sure how that works.

We have 42 losses so if we go 5-1 and have 43, Chicago, with 40 losses has to lose 3 times. We have the tiebreaker already, so our game is irrelevant as long as the numbers still work. This is my understanding, correct me if I am confusing this.

NBA.com wrote:TIEBREAKER BASIS:
(-) Tie breaker not needed (better overall winning percentage)
(1) Division leader wins tie from team not leading a division
(2) Head-to-head won-lost percentage
(3) Division won-lost percentage
(4) Conference won-lost percentage
(5) W-L Percentage vs. Playoff teams, own conference
(6) W-L Percentage vs. Playoff teams, other conference
(7) Net Points, all games
We have the tiebreaker against Chicago because we only played 3 times and won the first 2 so even with a loss we win 2-1.
According to this if we finish 2-2 against Detroit, Detroit wins tiebreaker because their division record is going to be better than ours.

Way to jinx. Detroit is killing Philly on the road. Chicago looks like they will also win. The clock is striking midnight for the Bobcats.

Re: What's up with Pistons
Yeah, this thread is now pointless. Detroit has nothing to worry about. And look at the Bulls, they win the games they're supposed to. Both deserve to be in the playoffs over us.
We need to improve this team more in the off-season. They better look at the SG position first and foremost because after Raja there is NO ONE.

Re: What's up with Pistons
I think the Bobcats still have a shot and should therefore keep trying to get a playoff spot. But on the flipside both teams needed this game and you guys got torched by Will Bynum, who I like to call Lindsey Hunter 2.0. Not to mention Kwame Brown had a perfect game by my opinion. 9 rebounds, 1 blk, 0 FG attempts, 0 FT attempts, and he barely touched the ball.
I'll be honest though. Had Raja Bell been in the game, I really think Charlotte would've won this game. This team is too thin/inexperienced at SG beyond Bell.

There is one bright side of not making the playoffs, at least the pick doesn't go to Denver. Unless it's traded again.

According to this its only lottery protected, top 12 next year, top 10 in '11, etc. Denver has a top 20 protected pick that now goes to OKC.

Higgins confirmed in the Observer a month ago that our pick is top 20 protected.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the protection on the pick!!

Yea, I'm going with Higgins' word on this one...
