I don't want Taylor or Jamal Reynolds, err Maybin.

How is Maybin comparable to Jamal Reynolds?

I guess there are similarities, but you could say he's similar to a lot of players based off this assessment...

Book on DE Jamal Reynolds
By Mel Kiper
ESPN.com

Here's a rundown of what I've had to say about Florida State DE JAMAL REYNOLDS since the beginning of the college-football season.
March 21
Proven outside pass-rusher, figuring to be a quality selection if he drops past the middle of the first round.

Feb. 28
Clubs know he can rush the passer, but the concern is how effective Reynolds will be when it comes to holding up at the point of attack versus the run.

Feb. 7
Causes a great deal of concern for opposing offensive line coaches due to his proven skill level as an edge pass rusher.

Jan.12
Very consistent, effective, outside pass-rusher for the Seminoles. At 255 pounds, he isn't physically imposing, but he brings a tenacious ability to get to the quarterback.

Jan. 4
Lacks imposing size, but he's quick off the ball, closes with a burst and has a great deal of power in his pass rush.

Dec. 31
Lacks imposing size at 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, but he's a natural pass rusher who forces offensive line coaches to account for him on every snap. However, I wouldn't necessarily to expect every personnel department in the NFL to agree that he deserves such an elite grade.

Dec. 7
There were a few games this year where the opposition contained his outside pass-rush ability. He also checks in at only 255 pounds.

Nov. 22
The opposition knows going in that they have to account for Reynolds on every snap. That was the case against Florida, when he faced constant double-teaming, finishing with just one tackle.

Nov. 15

With Wake Forest doubling Reynolds on every snap and also running the option away from him, he recorded four tackles and one stop behind the line of scrimmage. This week against Florida, Reynolds will be provided with the national spotlight to showcase his exceptional outside pass rush skills.

Nov. 8
The main headliner on an FSU defense that is loaded with talent. This past week against Clemson, Reynolds finished with two stops behind the line of scrimmage and one QB sack.

Nov. 1
In the Seminoles' rout of N.C. State, Reynolds battled through constant double teaming, recording three tackles and one sack. After being hampered by minor knee and hand injurie early on, Reynolds was back at 100 percent physically.

Oct. 26
In three of the next four weeks, the Seminoles will be tested. They face N.C. State on the road, host Clemson and square off against the rapidly improving Florida Gators to close out the regular season. Reynolds, who registered three tackles last week against Virginia, will be counted on to provide a steady pass rush off the edge.

As long as it's not in Green Bay, that's fine with me. I'd want no part of Maybin.

I don't think you need to worry about that. Unless Ted trades down, i don't see much chance that he'll draft Maybin with a top 10 pick. The kid has some skill, but strikes me as a project. All he's really ever done in college is from a hand in the ground stance, try to round around not overly skilled offensive tackles. He's light in the butt and legs. He's never played in a 3-4 defense as an OLB.

I think you're right, and I sure hope you are. I don't get the love affair people have with this kid, especially as a potential #9 pick. You're absolutely right, he's a project, and the last thing we need at #9. If we trade down, maybe we end up with him, but I still hope not.

Anyone else waiting to see the headline, "Taylor Leaves GB Without Signing?"

Why is a project the last thing we need? Is it absolutely imperative we get the guy that will contribute most next season? Or is it a better idea to grab the player with the chance to be the best over the course of his career?

I want the guy with the high ceiling. Look at his tape, talk with him, his coaches and determine if he's a worker and likely to reach that ceiling. If Maybin checks out to being a good kid and a hard worker who's to say he won't be a real good one?

Being a project is not a bad thing.

Yeah, why would you not take the guy that projects to be the best player overall, not necessarily best player in year 1? This is a top ten pick, you don't draft for need and you don't draft on year 1 impact only.

Why do people like Maybin? Good frame/size, good work ethic, and the guy produced in a very tough conference as a sophomore last year, after losing weight after being sick. Besides being raw, what is there not to like about Maybin?

I wouldn't have a problem with Maybin, like DB said, he's probably got the highest ceiling. I'd be more comfortable drafting Brown, who is quite polished in comparison to Maybin, but might not have as much upside. Only three more weeks. Three loooong weeks.

Sounds more like his agent is using the Packers to up his bidding war between Pats and Phins.

Whats there to doubt? If we miss out on him were probably going after Carter or Holliday. I dont know why the Pack dont chase down two DE like Carter and Taylor. Taylor can play OLB too. Rent them for two years and use alot of picks to beef up our OL.

Why would Taylor's agent choose Ted Thompson of all GM's to start a bidding war? And what do you mean "Taylor can play OLB too?" Where else would he play for us? I could see us pursuing Kevin Carter later this summer, but for now it sure seems like Trader Ted wants to keep roster spots open for rooks and practice squad players.

You don't think he'd play DE, do you?

It's an absolute joke that there isn't a write up on Jason Taylor's visit in the JS or the Press Gazette. I could probably drive over to Lambeau and ask one of the waitresses at Curly's about Taylor and she could no doubt give me more insight than most of these "journalists."

I'm not all against drafting Maybin, just against it at #9. I'd easily take any of Raji, Andre Smith, or Jenkins before picking Maybin and i'd be shocked if all three of those guys were gone before the 9th selection.

If though Ted trades down and then Maybin ended up being the best player on the board, i'd be fine with the pick even though i do have some real reservations about him possibly being a bust.
