Opening series vs. Minnesota

Post#1 » by TTown » Sun Apr 5, 2009 9:17 pm

Felix Hernandez (9-11, 3.45 era) vs. Francisco Liriano (6-4, 3.91 era)
Erik Bedard (6-4, 3.67 era) vs. Kevin Slowey (12-11, 3.99 era)
Carlos Silva (4-15, 6.46 era) vs. Glen Perkins (12-4, 4.41 era)
Jarrod Washburn (5-14, 4.69 era) vs. Nick Blackburn (11-11, 4.05 era)

No Ichiro.

I have high hopes for Hernandez and Bedard this year, but anything after that relies on prayer.

Me too. Got 'em both on my fantasy team.

By the way, welcome!

The only Mariner I have on my fantasy team this year is...Morrow. Stupid auto-draft.

I hope they come out of the gate with a 2-2 split, and looking at the pitching match-ups I think they have a pretty good shot of doing just that.

Pretty excited to see Felix and Bedard. Hopefully the latter stays healthy so those two can go back-2-back for the entire season.

Our hitting will be ugly, but oh well. Unless ofcourse Branyan keeps up his torrid homerun pace from the spring, but I doubt it.

It'll be great to see Griffey's return too. He'll be in the lineup against a dominant left-handed starter, and playing in the outfield as well! What could go wrong?

And in his first at bat he grounds out the other way, advancing the runner, and then Neihaus/Blowers practically soil themselves in excitement.

1-0 M's in the 3rd inning of the opener. Beltre doubled in the second, KGJr sacrificed him to third, Lopez sacrificed him home.

Felix looks good, the defense looks good...but the offense not so much. Such is life when you're no longer facing nobodies who are trying to just give their team innings on the mound and instead face Liriano.

ENDY CHAVEZ SUCKS. I EXPECTED HIM TO HIT .360 AFTER HIS HOT SPRING, AND HE'S NOW 0-2.

Soak it in, gentlemen. Not sure when we'll bee north of .500 again.

Felix was great. Timely hitting. Great defense. Let's do it again tomorrow...

Could an M's fan have asked for a better opening game? Would have been twice as sweet if it was a home game, but oh well.

I was so excited when Griffey went deep. It was amazing to watch. And damn, even the Gutierrez showing his pop with the two-run blast.

Biggest moment of the game though had to be when Felix got Morneau to ground into the double play. So huge.

LETS GO BEDARD!

To be fair, he did look bad in the outfield...there were two 'base hits' in a row which lead to the Twins only run that an outfielder like better range, like Ichiro for example, would've had a shot at.

Still...he made up for it.

4-0 M's in the 4th

3 straight hits with 2 outs in the 4th to extend the lead. 2 out... so what! Just like 2001.

Bedard pitching very well.

3 stinking lousy outs to go without a couple of runs and we win. Would be nice.

So far, so good with the two new outfielders. Without the efforts of Chavez and Gutierrez the last two nights I don't know that we win the two games. I like Putz, but if you can add two starting caliber outfielders in exchange for him...well, that's far more valuable than a relief pitcher. Which isn't to say I have any thoughts about what those two will be worth over the year, but they've looked good so far.

That said, Morrow could come in right now and get shelled and shut me right up w/r/t the value of a closer...
