Manu done for regular season and Playoffs

Post#1 » by Nolan » Mon Apr 6, 2009 11:04 pm

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that guard Manu Ginobili will miss the remainder of the 2008-09 regular season as well as the 2009 NBA Playoffs. Ginobili felt stiffness in his lower right leg during the Spurs-Cavaliers game in Cleveland on Sunday afternoon. Following the game he returned to San Antonio. Earlier today, in San Antonio, he underwent a CT scan and an MRI. The examinations showed an increased marrow edema and a stress fracture in his right distal fibula. No timeline has been determined for Ginobili’s return to the court.

This is a huge blow to chances of doing anything in the postseason. The only chance we had at making a run was if everyone was healthy, I don't think we'll get far without Manu :(

As a Laker fan, that effin blows. I was hoping we could have a WCF rematch with both teams fully healthy this year. I really think the only reason it was over in 5 last year was because Manu was gimpy (then again, we didn't have Bynum either).

:censored: :censored: :censored:

That ruins my day, Roger Mason is going to need to pick up some major slack. Maybe Gooden can be the new 3 of the big 3. The spurs won a championship with Robinson/Elliot/Duncan as the 3, maybe Parker/Gooden/Duncan can do something. How does that leave us

C- Duncan/Thomas
PF- Gooden/Bonner
SF- Bowen/Udoka
SG- Mason/Finley/Hairston
PG- Parker/Hill/Vaughn

Not very intimidating, :sigh: but you never know

Can we get Horry to lace it up one more time?

As a pistons fan, I was shocked to hear this, good luck in the playoffs, I always enjoyed watching Parker & Manu.

Told everyone we needed to turn injuries off.

Man that really really REALLY sucks, Manu really needed to be back in form for us to have a shot of getting anywhere in the playoffs.

Man today had started off so well too...

Ouch. This hurts worse than a rusty cheesegrater to the nether regions.

I was really looking forward to the playoffs. The Lakers Golden Path to the Finals just got that much brighter.

With Manu out and TD probably not even expected to be 60% of himself this postseason, I'd prefer to just sit TD the last remaining games and hope he doesn't exit playoffs hurt.

We're not winning anything this year, let's get out quick before anyone else gets hurt.

I'm in favour of Pop sitting TD for the rest of the regular season. Who cares what seed we end up with? Then let a rested Duncan channel Olajuwon circa '95 playoffs and go Old Testament God on everybody's ass.

I hate to play the "what if" card, but I know that Pop was reluctant to give his blessing for Manu to play for Argentina in Beijing last yr, for fear of exactly what has happened this season. I can understand wanting to represent your country, but at the expense of the team that pays you big $$$$...I don't know.

Really a big blow to the Spurs chances to go further into the postseason. The chances to taste the title this year is dead at this point. :nonono:

I thought that as well, but at the same time we don't want an exhausted Parker in the PO. Parker needs to be extra agressive now, but he can do so only when fresh and rested.

It SUCKS.

Man, I was shocked when I read that Manu is out of the playoffs. I absolutely agree with several of the posters - rest everybody till the end of the regular season, forget about rankings and home-court advantage, try to get Hill and Udoka as much playing time as possible. I'm pretty confident they can even win a game or two like that. Then play your heart out in the playoffs and no matter how far we go, we will be proud. I know for certain we can make it to the Conference Finals again but Round Two is more probable. After all, we played without Manu at the start of the season and we got some of our role players in really nice shape - we could do that again. And Hill can really pile up some experience.
