Anybody would consider signing this guy??

Post#1 » by Bruiser » Sat Apr 4, 2009 7:38 pm

Hey yo!

After doing some research I've found a promising young PF who is averaging 12.4 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 2.0 APG, 0.495 FG% and 32.2 MPG as a starter in a top team in the league. Would you consider signing him?

If your answer is "Hell yeah!!" and you bleed green, you are a lucky cat because you have already this guy in your team. Ladies and gentlemen let me introduce you your starting PF Glen "Big Baby" Davis!!!

Many posters have bashed Baby, but suddenly he has become a hot commodity. And if he can keep this level in the playoffs, he will be regarded as a valuable asset. If you were a GM wouldn't you try to get a reliable and playoff proven player? Just check what Mark Blount got with just a few months of work...

As far as I like Baby, when KG, Powe and Scal come back there won't be room for him, so Danny could probably get something for Baby.

Any thoughts? Kind regards.

For 3 mio per year but not more...you have to be extra careful with overweight players in contract years...

Typically I will avoid PF who cannot get 7 rebounds at 30 minutes play.

Baby is not good on the defensive glass. Perhaps he will continue to work hard at conditioning and improve this.

However, he is solid on the offensive glass (particularly when we are not using him to take low percentage two point jump shots which a smart opponent won't defend diligently even if he is hitting 50-60% of shots), as is Powe, which is important since we've got KG who is an excellent defensive rebounder but nothing special on the offensive glass, we've got Perk who has always been solid but nothing special on the offensive glass, we've got PP and Rondo who are great (for their positions) on the defensive glass but don't contribute anything on the offensive glass.

He still needs to work on his defense and rebounding, and most likely need to lose some weight. He shouldn't be getting more than half of MLE.

KG is nothing special on the offensive glass? Do you realize how many balls he keeps alive, or have we forgotten already?

I'd say Davis is an average to decent defensive rebounder. His main appeal is the fact that he has old school post moves and can execute them effectively. He can also pass and handle to an extent. He's basicaly what Antoine Walker would have been if he was much bulkier but only played in the low post.

I'd give him 4 mil a year for 5 years with a team option in the 4th and 5th year.

LMAO. Walker was much better in the post. I'd like to know which BBD you guys are watching. Old school low post moves?! When?! Davis is a decent offensive rebouder and tries to collect garbage down there (although he often gets blocked) but he RARELY uses a post move.. Come on now..

The ONLY thing BBD a little better than A. Walker is the 15-18 feet shoot. BBD is just average in his shoot. But A. Walker is a terrible to NONE mid-range shooter.

Statistically, no. He is the type of guy that does a number of little things that help his team but don't show up in a stat sheet. But as far as pulling down rebounds is concerned, he is clearly not a great offensive rebounder. His career best in terms of offensive rebounding % was in '97-98 when he posted a percentage of 9.7%, lower than Mark Blount's career best, lower than Joe Smith's career %. In '04-05, after Mark Blount signed his contract with up and sucked, he posted a 8% O-Reb% alongside guys like Al & Perk. That was more impressive than anything KG has done on the offensive glass over the past three seasons, and almost as impressive as anything KG has done on the offensive glass at any random point in his career.

You can not use per 36 on a guy like Baby.

He's in a specialized role on a winning team. And more importantly you have to be concerned with stamina with him over the season at those kind of minutes. Baby may not get tired of running, but if his legs don't give him enough verticle his shot is going to be ****; along with his foul drawing ability.

Fully rested and running Baby has just enough lift to make it work.

Maxiell is a different kind of guy that doesn't do well in extending minutes.
