The Knicks are having to watch their costs this summer so chances are they can't sign both Robinson and Lee. If the KINGS get the #1 draft pick why not take Griffin and then try and sign Robinson and if the KINGS get the #2 pick then why not sign Rubio and then try and sign Lee?
Imagine having Griffin/Robinson or Rubio/Lee next year?

I don't want Gary Coleman anywhere near the Kings. If we are going to go after someone/point guard it should be Sessions. Doesn't really matter because we will not have the money to go after anyone until 2010.

Re: Signing Nate Robinson or David Lee next year?
Neither one should be a fulltime starter on a GOOD team in this league because of their blatant deficiencies:
Robinson because he's a no defense chucker & Lee because, despite being a top notch rebounder, plays no defense and has little to no offensive game outside of pick and rolls to the basket and offensive putbacks.

only reason to get nate and lee is if we could package them in a trade for jennings and griffin. besides that no. hawes and thompson are better than lee, and we can get a more solid pure pg with one of the first round picks.

No and No. We have 0 need for Lee, and Robinson is not a point guard, just an incredibly undersized two. These two players, especially Lee, have no room on this team. NO!

Terrible idea. Everyone else has covered the reasons, so I won't sound like a broken record. Just no.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to the Kings getting Lee or Robinson, but not at the price that they won't get outbid at.
Kings aren't going to end up with either of those guys.

Looking at the available free agents next year there aren't a whole lot of options or top free agents available. Boozer just had knee surgery do we want to take a risk and sign him to a big contract? Forget about Bibby, Artest, Marion, O'neal, Odem or Iverson. Lets face it what top free agent wants to come and play for the KINGS. Either Lee or Robinson might be available for a reasonable rate due to the economic conditions. Petrie has tried several times to get Lee and just before the trade dead line tried to get Robinson.

^^Why do we have to sign any free agents? There's already 10 guys under contract for next season (not counting guys with team options). Add 3 draft picks and extend a qualifying offer to McCants and the team's basically at a full roster. If necessary, pick up an undrafted rookie to fill a spot. Just because the team might have money doesn't mean that it has to be spent. Use any cap space (if it actually materializes) to absorb salary in trades.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Do you really want to see this team stand pat without making any changes except for the draft? Can you stomach another losing season like this one? The KINGS need a lot more than a 1st round draft pick to make it back to the play-offs. Hawes and Thompson need another year to develop and a rookie such as Griffin or Rubio will need at least 2 years to develop also. To get better the KINGS are going to have to either sign a free agent or do a major trade to bring in some more talent. I think the KINGS might have a problem bringing in high profile players so they may have to go after middle tear players such as a Lee or Robinson type player. It would be great to get someone like Bosh or D-Wade but those type of players aren't coming to Sac. The KINGS are going to have to put together a team like Detroit had, a team with no real super stars but a collection of realy good players; and hope and pray that Hawes / Thompson and this years draft pick become exceptionaly good players.

The thing is though that those "middle tier" guys aren't going to make a huge difference in the team's success next year.

I would much rather stand pat than bring in MLE level talent that may not provide any long-term benefit to the team. But don't assume that not signing MLE level free agents is the same as "standing pat". As I alluded to at the end of my post (I guess I should have been more specific), roster changes can (and should) be made using what cap space their might be by absorbing salary in trades. I don't have specific trade ideas at the moment, but concept here would be to move someone like KT (and his $8M expiring) for a disgruntled player earning in the $10-11M range. Having cap space would allow Petrie to make such a trade without taking garbage salaries back. The challenge, of course, will be to find such a deal Maybe when I have time to think more, I will come up with a specific trade idea using the cap space. But the point I was trying to make is that Petrie does not have to sign someone while still improving the team with that cap room.

Re: Signing Nate Robinson or David Lee next year?
JT has averaged 18/12/1.5 blocks in April and Hawes has put up 14/8 in April. These guys are ready to go now. We need a coach who will stick to the Princeton plan and is not as panicky as Natt. If we get the #1 we could take Grifffin if we move JT to the 3 but we aren't moving him. We are a lot closer to winning than you think. We really only need a PG who will turn things around. We will probably move Kenny for a free agent in the summer.
