I was reading this month's SLAM! magazine with Brandon Jennings and Ricky Rubio on the cover and was intrigued with what I read and subsequently saw from Rubio.
Both are eligible and lookinmg to land in the NBA Draft this summer, and considering Brandon Jennings will be long gone once we pick, I was curious to know what my fellow Real GM'ers thought of the Spanish PG.
He's 6'4" 180...studied video from Pistol Pete Maravich (whom he's heavily compared to)...and kinda looks like him too. Play for Europe's top team, and plays tough, hard nosed defense too.
Here's some footage of him...for those curious to see this guy in action

I like the kid....and if it were ME...I'd gamble and take this kid at pick 19!

On the trade boards there is talk of teams taking him #2, no way he falls to 19.

He is as close to consensus at 2 as Griffin is at 1. Jennings is the one who could slip, although not out of the lottery.

i wouldn't waste a 1st round pick on Ricky. he is another overrated "duke-type" of player. their are about half a dozen PGs in this draft that are better than Ricky.

Re: Ricky Rubio anyone?
I don't think I would label Ricky Rubio as a "duke-type" player from my memories of him in the Olympics. Actually not even sure what that means when describing a PG. Normally people use the duke label to either mean too unselfish which wouldn't be bad for a PG or not athletic, which isn't exactly the case with Rubio. He might not have great foot speed, but he has good speed and great speed change and direction control. I don't think he'd have much problem getting into the lane in the NBA.
I wouldn't expect either player to fall far enough to be a concern for Atlanta. We don't have the trade ammo to move up into the high lottery and I doubt that either player drops very far considering their skill and upside.

Do you write stuff like this just so people will make fun of you? Or do you actually believe this to be true?

Might as well start a "Griffin anyone?" thread.

More interested in the possibility that Danny Green is still on the board when we pick in round 2.

Re: Ricky Rubio anyone?
I am a big Rubio fan. This guy is amazing, it tells a lot from him, that he was a part of the silver medalist team in 2008, and he earned his role. I don’t know how many players could say that they were playing in the Olympic finals at the age of 18. He was actually a starter, and did alright.
He plays from the age of 14 in one of the bests competitions in Europe. He is a true point guard, with tremendous pass and anticipation skills, and has higher basketball IQ at this early age than most of the NBA players.
I can describe him with one word: Unbelievable!
But as a hawks fan I know that he could not be a Hawk, because Atlanta isn’t a lottery team, no more.
Anyway, Rubio is a top5 pick no matter when he puts his name in the draft. Actually in this draft he could even steal the show … yes, he could be a no1. pick.
