Jesus Christ, Morrow has no control of his pitches...just throw a strike

Re: Opening series vs. Minnesota
Three straight walks, so Morrow gets pulled and now Batista's brought in to close it out. There's no way this has a good ending...Batista gets the job done and perhaps he suddenly gets a look as the closer, or Batista takes the loss and we lose a game we had in the bag.

Yikes. Horrific bullpen implosion. Maybe we should draft another reliever in the 1st round this summer.

All I have to say is:
If you want to be the man, be the man. Otherwise just shut up and do what your team should be paying you to do, which IMO is working hard at becoming the starting pitcher we drafted you to be—instead of trying to become a closer because you think it'll be *easier.*
Yes, I'm talking to you Brandon Morrow.

Re: Opening series vs. Minnesota
I put no blame on Batista. He came in and threw strikes, WHICH IS WHAT MORROW IS/WAS SUPPOSED TO DO. Batista got an unlucky bounce on the chopper, and then the next guy was just first-pitch hackin. Nothing you can do about that.
I mean, really, Morrow? THREE STRAIGHT WALKS!? What a bum.
God that loss pissed me off. The team played so well and the bullpen was lights out until the 9th.
EDIT: Oh, and I like skip pulling Morrow after the walks. His performance was just inexcusable.

What Brandon Morrow is paid to do is to play baseball. And it’s pretty obvious, save for a few decent appearances at AAA, and a one-game beatdown of the Yankees, that he can’t hack starting and that he’s a much better pitcher coming out of the pen. It’s not as if this is some kind of unfortunate development; most scouts had him pegged as a future relief ace all the way back to his college days. If anything, credit Bavasi & Co. for trying their asses off to correct his control issues, teach him a capable third pitch, and help him manage his diabetes well enough to actually be able to start in professional games. It didn’t work; we all need to get over it and get on with ourselves.

Re: Opening series vs. Minnesota
For me the most concerning part wasn't the blown save, it was Morrow's post-game interview where he was shell-shocked and looked like he was on the verge of tears. Is he going to be the type that can shake off a rough performance when he has to pitch the next night?

I think he was crying for you, his fantasy owner.

You need to post that on facebook where there are no language filters so i can properly respond...
Seriously, he killed. My auto-draft stuck me with Morrow and Marmol as my candidates for second RP, and they both suck for different reasons.

Re: Opening series vs. Minnesota
Honestly, what the hell else is Wakamatsu supposed to do with Silva? Silva's future is the GM's call...if you move Silva to the pen, who starts in his place?
I didn't like putting Batista in, but prior to last night it seemed firmly established that Batista was just the mop-up guy. Him coming in last night was probably a reward for throwing strikes, working quickly, and getting outs in the first game...things he's typically struggled with.
Wakamatsu probably doesn't know what what he has yet in the pen. It will take a bit to figure who fits what role best.

Re: Opening series vs. Minnesota
I agree on Silva... there's really not much else we can do with him. He's completely untradable, we're short on starting pitching... an epic fail all around, but since he's here, he almost has to start.
Hope to salvage this series tomorrow.

Re: Opening series vs. Minnesota
Washburn has to love having this new outfield behind him...as a flyball guy he's clearly reaping the benefits of having guys with range out there.
