Report: Shaq Wants to go to Dallas

Post#1 » by The Diesel » Wed Apr 8, 2009 7:57 am

Hey guys,

I will post a report that came out yesterday stating that Shaq has been telling people close to him that he really wants to be traded to Dallas this Summer.

I am not surprised by this; Shaq has been interested in going to Dallas ever since he demanded a trade from the Lakers in 2004.

Shaq/Dirk/Kidd would be a really good team.

The Suns could get Josh Howard and Dampier in return.

A good trade for both teams.

Here's the report followed by the link:

Shaquille O’Neal didn’t just stay an extra day in Dallas because, as he claims, he wanted to visit the Grassy Knoll. We’re told the Suns legendary center also stayed behind because he thinks all the grass in Dallas might be greener – and that he is angling with Mavs owner Mark Cuban for an offseason trade to Big D.

This storyline is just now revving up again thanks to Shaq’s weekend on the town, during which he repeatedly told friends about the Mavs being on his wish list. We’ve already chronicled his Saturday night pregame party at Dolce Vendetta where he stayed until 1 a.m. before the ensuing afternoon tipoff, but that was a paid-appearance thing. On Sunday, according to sources, he was at it again, reveling/mourning until 4 a.m. with virtually the entire Suns team (we're told that includes everyone from Steve Nash on up) at another Dallas nightclub.

Once again that night, he expressed to those around him his desire to leave Phoenix for Dallas.

“Privately, he’s not making any secret of it,’’ says one mutual friend of Shaq and DallasBasketball.com. “I bet right after the season ends, it won’t be private anymore, either.’’

http://www.dallasbasketball.com/fullColumn.php?id=1496

I think Shaq is definitely gone this Summer. Cuban has been interested in trading for him for a very long time and Shaq wants to go there.

Things just haven't worked out for him in Phoenix. (To nobody's surprise)

Howard is a really good player and Dampier is a solid center.

What do you guys think?

Shaq screwed up by leaving Miami just like Marion screwed up by leaving Phoenix. They both screwed up.

Shaq is probably wondering to himself, "What was I thinking?"

As a Mavs fan i have to say: Please stop dreaming.
No way the Mavs give up an expiring + JHo for Shaq. Not even our FO is that stupid . ( I hope it at least). My first offer would be Carrol, damp a pick and fillers. But i can see that the main concern for your team has to be caprelief and that offer might be lowballing as well. Final offer would be one of Hill/Barnes/your first + Shaq for Stack/Damp/Shawne or our pick if you decide to give us your pick...
I know that this offer might seem to be low balling in your eyes but regarding the financial crisis , i really think it isnt. Stack + carrol+ shawne will probably fetch Michael Redd. And a lot of other teams want to get a hand on stacks immediate 5 M cap relief. Damp is a serviceable center and an expiring as well. I think its a pretty even trade. Demanding JHo is ridiculuos. Shaq got traded here for Marion and Banks!!. He has proven that he can be a player here but he has gotten older 2.

I don't think we'd trade Shaq to a rival such as Dallas.

Hill+Shaq for Damp+Stack would be a much more pathetic trade then J-Ho+Damp for Shaq, and I'd take Marion in the Suns' system over J-choke any day of week.

Steve Kerr is dumb, but so is Cuban. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Mavs pulled off the trade the OP suggested (J-Ho+Damp for Shaq).

Some Mavs trades the Suns might consider (aside from the OP's suggestion) would be :

Shaq + JRich for Damp + J-Ho + Bass

Shaq + Barbosa for Damp + JET + Barea or Bass + pick

(^didn't check the salaries, so throw in fillers if needed)

Anything less then that and the Suns say hell no cuz they can get much better offers from other teams in exchange for Shaq then Dallas' garbage.

Shaq's an allstar, one of the best low post scorers in the NBA, and on an expiring contract, so it's not like the Suns would have trouble moving him in exchange for actual talent if getting rid of Shaq is what we decide to do.

[quote="b-ball forever"]Some Mavs trades the Suns might consider (aside from the OP's suggestion) would be :

Shaq + JRich for Damp + J-Ho + Bass

I would have no problems with this deal. Would have to add Stack to make the salaries work.

ModIn, you sound like a tool saying this is what has to happen for a trade to happen. You get an expiring contract in Shaq, and finally get a low presents. What we are giving you is better then you ever have had. J-Ho-crap is always hurt and I can’t stand him. He is overrated as a 3 and is a guy I would not want on the suns.

Second of all, no way we give our pick and give you Shaq to get some scrubs, a one time all star and a worst pick. That is moronic to think that.

I personally do not care who he goes to because it is not going to affect us no matter what in the rebuilding process that they will soon being hitting in the future. But think of their D past an aging Kidd who is expiring contact and some have talked about him leaving. You have Dirk who is even softer and worse at D then Amare. Shaq is no defensive guy either and most likely, the mavs do not really get any better with this trade. However, I would demand their pick and take that pick of theirs to get a guy that is slipping, like a BJ Mullens and give him some time because the kid has huge upside. Maybe Blair if he is there.

I would only trade Shaq from this team and see what you can get for J-rich in a sepperate trade.

If trading Shaq/Jrich for Damp/Stack/JHO/Bass freed up enough cash to sign Ariza this summer, I think they we would surprisingly be a much better team next year.

Nash/Howard/Ariza/Amare/Damp would be much improved defensively with 2 key scorers in Amare and JHO. I actually like it.

I'm sure it won't happen that way but I would enjoy that lineup.

I'd follow that up with trying to sign Marion for the MLE

Nash/Dragic/Draft pick
Howard/Barbosa
Marion/Dudley
Amare/Amundson
Dampier/Bass/Fropez

As much as I hate Dampier, the guy can clean up the glass and he's a big body defensively. Howard/Marion/Dampier should shore up the Nash/Amare defensive woes...

Well kinda funny indeed. At the other Mavs fan: Im a Mavs fan for years and suffered from all the bad decision that our FO has made. And I just hope that they are not stupid enough to screw this offseason up again. And the only other offer for shaq on the table will be MAYBE pavlovic + wallace from cleveland. U are not going to get more for Shaq. But ure right. Cuban is not the smartest of GMs and i can see him overpaying. I never said Ill give u fair value for Shaq. Noone will. Who is going to want a 37 year old center who is owed 20 M. I doubt that Sarver is willing to pay this albatross for a soon to be rebuilding btw lottery team. If you are happy with getting rid of Amare or Nash rather than cut ties with Shaq than fine. The only 2 takers for Shaq are the Mavs and maybe the Cavs. Shaq wants to go the Mavs. Ask the Heat how nice it is to have a disgruntled Shaq on your team.
If Cuban offeres anything more than the immediate salary relief of Stack, hes dumb. Just dumb.

Oh yes, we'd finaly get our low presents  The word you are looking for is presence smart guy.

And which NBA do you watch ? Dirk is an average defender compared to Amare's subpar defense.

No you can't. You are fooling yourself if you think a 37yo rental will net you Josh Howard. LMAO!

Edit: And even funnier was the suggestion that we take J-Rich's contract AND give Bass at the same time. Somebody's got a few screws loose!

Your ignorance shows in the fact that you think Bass and Barea are on the same level.

Dampier (12.1 mil expiring) + Stack ($2 mil guaranteed) + cash is what will be offered. If Cuban is stupid, he will add the 2009 pick.

Trading Howard for J-Rich is a no go on it's own merit. Adding Bass makes it worse.

The same one where a defensive liability, 3rd/4th offensive option getting paid $14.5 mil in 2010 would net them something better than Diaw and Bell.

I think that both sides can admit a bit of lopsidedness. That being said, the largest expiring in the league next year (before the 2010 FA market) will be O'Neal. The possibilities that creates for the team holding his contract is immense. Add to that the fact that O'Neal sells jerseys, hypes franchises and fills seats. Oh, and he also is averaging 18ppg on 61.1% fg% while grabbing 9rpg and tallying 1.5bpg. His EFF is +21.07.

Finally, the one thing the Mavs have lacked since, well forever, is an inside presence. If you guys were able to couple scoring inside with Nowitzki and Kidd on the perimeter, you would stand a chance in the Western conferece. Otherwise, why go on spinning your wheels?
