Who do you want to play in the playoffs?

Post#1 » by dingojazz » Tue Apr 7, 2009 4:53 pm

Heard a good discussion on this on the radio this morning, thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thinks. Rank the other 7 playoff teams from who you fear the most to who you fear the least. (Yes I'm counting the Suns as out)

Here's my take -

1. Lakers - Obvious best team in the west, it would be great to play them in the WCF.
2. Portland - I think we could play ten games in Portland and lose them all. We can't match up with their athleticism.
3. Houston - Something about trying to beat a team for a 3rd year in a row without homecourt worries me.
4. Denver - If we play in the playoffs I might have nightmares of Birdman swatting Boozer over and over and over...
5. San Antonio - I would actually like our chances against them now that Ginobli is out.
6. Dallas - I think we are just tougher and could wear Dirk down, get in his head and take the series.
7. New Orleans - We own them.

I have a feeling we are going to match up with the Nugs in round 1.

1. LA
2. Portland
3. San Antonio
4. Denver
5. Dallas
6. Houston
7. New Orleans

I have confidence we'd be any of the teams 4-7 even with out HCA.

San Antonio and Portland would be very tough, and I wouldn't give us much of a chance vs. LA.

What makes you believe that? We've beat how many teams on the road with winning records??

We have a chance with everyone but Spurs and Lakers.
Besides that, I dont want to verse anyone unless its the Rockets or Hornets.

2. San Antonio
3. Portland
4. Dallas
5. Houston

7. New Orleans

top 3 worry me (ginobli hasnt been on the team since 1999). bottom 3 not worried about. dallas...meh. could be long, could be short for either team.

1 Anyone
2 Anyone
3. Anyone
4. Anyone
5. Anyone
6. Anyone
7. Anyone
8 Tie: LA, Portland, Denver, San Antonio, Houston, New Orleans, Dallas.

Once the Jazz get healthy (COMPLETELY!) they will beat anyone! They should be number one and would have been had Boozer and DWilliams and crew been healthy all season.

I almost want the Jazz to match up with the Lakers so the Jazz knock them off. If the Lakers don't make it long enough for the Jazz to meet up with them I'll be bummed.

this except i would switch portland and san antonio even with ginobili's injury. roger mason is a solid player and they still have great coaching and a great big man.

we were healthy last year against the lakers and they didnt have bynum, and they took us in 6 games, and boozer was a joke except for one game..

once we get healthy we will beat anyone?? dude... seriously.. its about more then being healthy.. there is a reason we cant win on the road against decent teams, and it has nothing to do with being healthy.. all teams are banged up!! hornets just won at miami tonight without chandler and posey.. spurs, and rockets have been banged up all year, and they still get it done.. its about leadership and mental toughness, and focus on the road, and the jazz dont have IT...

injury excuse is getting old.. No one is completely healthy this time of year, and right now the jazz are healthier then most teams in the western conferance playoffs.. rockets have been without landry and mcgrady.. spurs now without manu..lakers have been without bynum.. hornets are without posey and chandler.. yet they all get big wins on the road.. we are just as healthhy as they are, if not more at this point, but we still cant get it done..

saying we should be #1 this year with all the injurys we had is rediculous.. would our record be better?? yes absolutely.. but even when we are healthy we still dont beat good teams on the road, and even lose at home to the wolves who were missing 2-3 starters..

also being healthy means nothing if you still arent going to get after it and play defense on the road and stop making silly turnovers...

why the jazz arent better then these teams this year, and they would lose to these teams without homecourt...

1.Lakers-they have kobe, we dont.... kobe wants to rip your heart out.. deron wants to be your buddie..
2.denver-Shot Blockers!! anderson, nene, martin block or at least contend the paint.. Swagger!! chris anderson brings swagger, jr smith hits a 3 on korver and slaps korver in the butt.. pansie korver does nothing and acts like JR didnt just disrespect the FFF out of him..
3.Houston-Defense!!! they play great D, and i dont care about us beating them the last 2 years.. battier and artest lock you down.. jazz have noone to lock you down.. ak47 use to be that guy..
4.Spurs-who cares if they dont have ginobili.. they will lock us down defensevly and roger mason will step up and go off on us..
5.portland-Bigs who defend the paint and block shots, brandon roy who is ten times more clutch the deron williams..

Now if we had homecourt, i think we beat all these teams in a series except for the lakers.. but without homecourt, we will lose in 6 to 7 games,,,,,,,,

right now its looking like the lakers or the nuggets in round one.. Lakers in 5.. nuggets in 7..

Because playoff series are a different story, and this is where Jerry Sloan is good enough to win the Jazz a road game in almost every series.

You have to play the same team 7 times in 2 weeks, you learn everything about them. And like the Jazz did in 2007, you stick around enough times something is going to breakthrough. That's what happened in Houston and Golden State.

Look at last year, the Jazz had a very good chance to win game 5 at LA but got jobbed in the fourth quarter.

The Jazz can win 1 game out of every four on the road against Denver, New Orleans, Dallas, and Houston.

10 times more clutch then Deron? That is just hilarious...

I would think we could beat the Mavs, Hornets, Nuggets, Rockets, or Portland in that order.

We own the Mavs, Hornets, and Nuggets with Deron Williams, he always plays well against Kidd, Paul, and Billups (back when he played in detroit on a much better team he destroyed him).

We own the Rockets due to the fact we can run Yao right out of the game and the AK/Harpring/Brewer match up with their second best player (Artest) is also in our favor for the most part

Portland always gives us some trouble but this will be the first year that they are in the playoffs, lack of experience could doom them this year unless Roy has some monster games. I fully expect their core of young players to fold and break under the pressure of the playoffs.

Bel, I have one word for you you are totally missing in what happens and injuries happen.

Gelling. Not the shoes.... with your teammates. The injuries have killed us this year. I don't care about injuries for other teams, so what, let them be healthy too, all that much better of a game but I can tell you if the Jazz were healthy all season they would be much, much, much better right now than they are and they are starting to gell now... Did you even see the NO games?

Big games? The Jazz have won some and lost some, but remember they didn't even have Boozer (and maybe AK) and they beat the Lakers, Boston and others. They showed they can win against the best even without two allstars!! Give it to the Jazz, Sloan will get this team rocking by playoffs.

Home/Away. 7 game playoff series SEVERLY lessens this impact. A one game away is hard to judge this. Even as bad as the Jazz have been on the road. In a playoff series, most of the time the team with the better coach wins, as long as the team has skilled players. The the Jazz DEFINITLY have this. And I don't even have to tell you how good Sloan is. The the Jazz have already proved that they are as good as any team in the the league this year.

Personally, here are the teams I would prefer to play that we might actually have a chance playing, since of course we won't play NO or Dal.

1. San Antonio. I know as a Jazz fan, this is an insane statement, but I'm telling you, this team needs to make a statement, and they would do that in not better way than beating a SA team that is missing their key to success. Without Manu, they are an 8th seedish team.

2. Of course, Houston. We own them. I am somewhat worried about the chances of playing the W/O BabyMac, he is a cancer. I still think we own them.

3. Denver. Great team, but I don't think they have what it takes to win in the playoffs. They are scary good when they are playing well though. JR Smith is the key to their success in the playoffs, and he burns us often.

4. Portland. I hate this matchup. We have a lot of issues matching up with them down low, and Roy is a handful to guard. I would steer clear of these guys, though their inexperience in the playoffs would be to our advantage.

5. LAL. Nobody wants these guys. If we were forced into the 8th seed by bad play, there wouldn't be much hope against them. Playing LA would mean we made NO push into the playoffs, so I think the Jazz would be dead the second that matchup is announced.

I think we win against SA, HOU, and DEN. Portland is a tossup, but LA is death, at least in the 1st round.

If you guys play the Lakers or Denver.. The key would be Brewer. Just keep active on the wings and have Boozer & Milsap bang up on Bynum (he's got that nasty brace on) and of course Okur should ruff up Gasol a bit. Deron should work Fisher and Farmar, that's a given. I think you guys could somehow upset the Lakers..

Have you been watching this team lately? Boozer and Okur are SO weak on the inside, there will be no banging. It will be Lakers in 4.
