Considering his MLB debut and all, you couldn't have really asked for more.

thanks for the quick recap... i was excited to see him make his debut, but as at work... i'll definitely catch the hilites

LIND again dominated. Good to see him, Snider and Hill swinging the bats for power. Still waiting for Rios and Wells to get going with the big hits. I am happy for Romero. Now, lets hope Richmond can do some damage tomorrow.

Good to see the season got off to a good start. Even though it's really early in the season now, it all adds up in the end.

And apparently Wednesday night's game was the lowest attended Jays game at the skydome. All the pessimism early in the year probably isn't helping their cause.

Ouch!! i did not know that... that must really hurt.. seriously, it must really suck playing in front of a library-like crowd :(

This team really needs to start winning

Thankfully Rogers has a MLB extra innings preview so I got to see Romero's debut. He had a pretty solid outing. It could have looked a lot worse if Bautista hadn't made that great play (defensive play of the year for the Jays so far). Since a lot of people didn't get to see him, I figured I'd give my (crude) early scouting report:

Romero has an interesting arsenal of pitches. His fastball at the beginning of the game was in the 88-89mph range which seemed good enough. But every once in a while, he threw one in there at 93mph. It's good to know he has that little extra he can throw in there. He has a good curveball he throws for strikes and then he has a better curveball he throws to try to get guys to miss. As the game progressed, he went down and in on righties more and more with that hook and they really struggled making contact. His changeup is probably his most advanced pitch. It's one of the better ones I've seen from a lefty in a while (excluding Santana) and he throws it with confidence (ie, even in hitters counts). The thing Romero did best this game was keep the ball down. I don't remember him missing high very often (maybe the Granderson homer).

The one thing I'd like to see a little more from him is going inside with hard stuff. He got in trouble by being predictable (especially to righties). Hard stuff away, soft stuff away then soft and inside to try to get them out. He has the juice to run it up on the hands of righties. If he can start working that part of the plate, he can be really good.

I don't think he'll ever be elite but he can certainly become a good #3 guy (maybe #2 if they're lucky) for the Jays. I don't doubt that if he struggles with control this year, he'll get lit up but that's the case for almost every player in the league (Halladay might be the best guy at keeping his team in a game despite control problems actually). I'm really looking forward to watching his next game.

MLB is really anal about posting clips online so you really won't find many online, and if you do put them up they'll take em down really quickly.
