Paul to Dallas... WTF?

Post#1 » by TheFranchise21 » Fri Apr 10, 2009 5:41 am

Seriously? How is this even newsworthy? ANY team would take back two bad contracts for Chris Paul. Paul is arguably the second or third most untradeable player in the league. You'd have to take back at least 5 bad contracts for Chris Paul. The writer of that article acts like the Mavs actually have a chance.

Yeah I mean, what's next, someone trading Pau Gasol for his brother?

thats different, Gasol is a borderline allstar but Paul is a borderline MVP. Plus Marc Gasol is a good young prospect, but Dallas literally has zero prospects of any kind. Dallas might in fact have the most unattractive set of assets in the NBA for a team like New Orleans. Trading Paul to get cap relief doesn't make sense because literally nobody would go the games and nobody would think of buying the team either.

I say we outbid the Mavs and tell NO we will take a mind boggling 3 bad contracts.

That would be a disaster for NO. Don't believe a word of it.

This Dallas deal is particularly bad, but the financial situation in NO really is quite dire, and blowing up the team for expiring contracts and picks is highly likely in my opinion.

And let's face it...... We have more picks and expiring contracts than just about anyone.....

I am curious to know what kind of team people think we could have with Paul...first considering what we have to give up and then consider what we would have to pay him, how would the rest of our team look?

Cause I typically like the financial flexibility we could have the next few years, I also believe if you put Paul on this team this year we improve about 6 or 7 wins this year (with jefferson). So what would we have to do to ensure that we have a title contending team?

One thing is for sure we would get a couple more free agent looks from players, but we may not have the money to sign them.

If their financial situation is so bad that they're willing to give up Chris Paul for expirings, they really shouldn't have team. That would indicate they are financially incapable of fielding a competitive team.

I always thought this would be Portland. They passed on Paul way back when and they have enough assets to start a team over. I do think that Paul doesn't last the season next year in NOLA.

I would imagine the #1 contender in the Paul bidding war would be NJ. They have way more young assets of value than other teams. I'd imagine....

Lopez + simmons for Paul + x is the start, maybe take back a bad contract too.

Unless New Orleans expects him to leave for nothing, I can't conceive of why New Orleans would trade him. It makes no sense.

Healthy Jefferson and Paul would put is in instant playoff contention if we had them for a full season.

if he's on the market; Dallas would not be the destination for Paul.

considering one of the bad contracts is likely Chandler it even improves us more.

Al/Love/Chandler as the big man rotation?
Gomes/Carney/Brewer/Foye on the wings
Paul/Bassy pg.

That is at least a 5/6 seed.

I don't think so. My guess would be Peja and Mo-pete. I think, if healthy, it's been shown someone will take Chandler for an expiring. I don't think the same can be said about the other two.

They tried to move Chandler for an expiring this summer. I am sure he would be part of the deal. But Peja/Mo pete likely would too.

Peja/Chandler/Paul for expirings..woohoo
