The Suns need to bring back Matt Barnes

Post#1 » by MaryvalesFinest » Fri Apr 10, 2009 9:23 pm

He's the Suns best defender and brings toughness to the Suns by striking fear into the other teams opponents. If the Suns bring him back what type of contract do you guys think he should get?

Something around a 5 year-3M per year deal sounds fair

I'll take Barnes back, but not if it means bringing you back.

You obviously don't know much about the game. Barnes is pathetic. The only consistent aspect of his game is his dirty play at times. He commits more flagrant fouls than anyone else in the league. His defense is horrific. His BB IQ is below average at best, and his shot selection and accuracy is also below average at best.

The only likable aspect about Barnes is the toughness he brings. Too bad he stinks as a player on most nights.

He is not worth 3mil a season. Stop with these idiotic threads Maryvale. Your knowledge of the game continues to deteriorate every time you post in this forum.

Barnes is a bad fit. He has way too much concentration lapses to be reliable. Too moody and streaky. He is unable to be productive for spot minutes like Dudley, Dragic, Amundson and the likes could, but is by far not good enough to be a starter on any competitive team. I'd start Dudley ahead of him any time, not to mention Hill. With JRich and LB on SG and Amare taking 38 min at PF, there is just no minutes for him. Given the salary concern of the team, it makes no sense to give him even the min. not to mention 3mil a year.

However, he might be worth that to teams like Clippers which don't need to compete just some players to fill their roster. ;)

Our best defender is Grant Hill. Even so Grant Hill is 85 years old I would make him more of a priority over Barnes. If they can bring Barnes back cheap I will take him. If not move on.

lol@Matt Barnes striking fear into anybody's heart.

If we can get him back for the min, sure. If not, no big.

The Suns would be better off with Barnes, he's younger and probally will sign for less. Battier makes like 6m and at the most Barnes would cost 4M per season.

Battier is 30, Barnes is 29 so not huge difference. Battier is a very good defender and I think a better shooter. 6 million in nba these days is cheap.

--- Good god, in a heartbeat. Houston would never be so foolish and anyway, Barnes is unrestricted at year's end i believe.

Battier is one of the best defenders in the game, Barnes is like a jack of all trade kinda guy. He's not really good at anything in particular. His defense is at best, average. His hustle is average. His rebounding is decent for his size and his scoring right now is probably as good as it'll get. I'd move Barnes for Battier in a heartbeat.

He's a good guy to have around for about 2-3mil a year, because he's still a decent player, but he definitely won't change anything here in Phoenix. I'd welcome a move that would bring him back for cheap but not a cent more.

I believe Amundson is our best defender. Man to Man, and Help defense. He's a guy that has huge production for us even when he's not scoring any points. He contests every shot, and guards players he's not even supposed to be guarding.

Hell no Houston would do this. Houston basically gave up Rudy Gay for Battier. They're not going to give up Battier for Barnes. Plus Barnes was traded in a package same year Adelman was still coaching. Doubt Adelman would want him back at that price.

the only thing barnes has been good for this year has been his long quarterback passes on out of bounds plays. his shooting is so horribly inconsistent and his bball iq must be lower than richardsons

has been good for us at times, he's had some really good stretches for us. Gotta keep in mind he posted career numbers in pts/game this year for us. Some of us want him back some us don't but, either way I think he'll get a better multi-year contract somewhere else. I wish him the best.

The guy said he wants to stay, but he also talked about long term security, so he's probably looking for at least $9M 3 years. Let him go.
