Who's willing to bet that they will keep the Nets at the Izod Center?
Especially if Xanadu will become an entertainment metro-plex- a place to hang out before heading over to a Nets or Giants game.

Even with renovating the Izod, I'd hate it. It's one of the oldest stadiums in the NBA. Only way we stay in East Rutherford is if we build a stadium there. I just want to be in a city-like setting. Brooklyn is still my top choice, but if we ended up at the Rock, I'm 100% fine with that. I just never saw how Newark would make us turn a profit. Granted Brooklyn is a complete unknown, thus making my logic hypocritical, but whatever. I'd rather see us move to Seattle and become the Seattle Supersonnets (get it? it's gay, but it makes me chuckle so whatever) instead of dealing with the Izod any longer than we had do. Man that'd be hardcore.
Haha imagine our mascot in Seattle. It'd be a pissed off pen or something. It would seriously have to stab someone in order to get any kind of respect, even from the home team fans lol.

If the Izod Center is so old, what about Madison Square Garden?
MSG has been around for eons, and it's still one of the busiest and most famous indoor stadiums in the world

The current Garden has only been there since the late 60's. It also went through a massive renovation in '91 and is scheduled for another one in 2011 or 2012 in order to modernize it. To my knowledge, the Izod has never gone through a renovation to the scale that the Garden has.
Also, you're comparing it to a stadium that 90% of the American people would be able to tell you where it is just be asking the question "Do you know where Madison Square Garden is" even if they don't watch sports. I'm being generous, but I'd say 15% of the population could say that about the Izod center.
On paper, you're correct, the Garden is older, but looking deeper, it's not the case. Add the legend of the Garden and the debate becomes pointless. I remember ESPN the Magazine 2 years ago surveyed 100 NBA players, the IZOD center was the #2 most hated arena. They had quotes, and everyone complained about how old it was, that the visiting locker room was the worst in the NBA and renovations wouldn't save the place.

DISCLAIMER: TAKE THIS FOR WHAT IT IS...A RUMOR!
In college, my buddy interned for the Nets one year. He still has a few friends that now currently work in the organization in some capacity. He just relayed to me that apparently everyone in the office has been made aware that Brooklyn is likely about to fall through. It's nothing about an upcoming court decision. It's that the financing is collapsing because of the economy and another downscale of the property will be needed which is going to kill the whole project. Ratner is trying a few last ditch things before going public apparently.
He did mention Newark isn't in the cards as long as Ratner is owner. They are not going to base preseason games (barely nobody goes to those anyway) on whether Newark will be profitable. The 4-5 people he knows believe Ratner will likely sell the team when they decide to make an official announcement about the Atlantic Yards.
Again, take it for what it is...A RUMOR from a fellow Nets fan.

I'm sorry to hear that for all the fans that were big advocates of Brooklyn...and although the positives were huge...I am really happy to hear he might sell if this thing falls through, and I really hope Newark has a chance...It would be great to take a train to a basketball game from house...and walke to the arena, hit up some food and drink...I believe there is more support for the Nets in Newark, than the Meadowlands...we shall see...

If Ratner sells the team say bye-bye to the Nets. They're going to be gone from the tri-state area for sure...

Re: Well the move to Brooklyn is as good as dead......
Honestly, as much of a supporter I am of the team heading to Brooklyn (I have a lot of family that grew up there and want to see it rejevenated) I was almost equally excited at the possibility of Newark. With that said, there are definitely people with enough money in this state to purchase the Nets, but even with the easier commute to the stadium and the solid young talent, I can't see a team in Jersey being profitable anymore. We're one of the few areas in sports where we have to compete with 2 other professional teams for fans. Those teams have a much richer history and a deeper fanbase. It will still be hard to steal those fans just because of a nice stadium and a commute.
Mind you, I sound like a complete hypocrite here because moving to Brooklyn (Knicks country) is basically the equivalent of a cow grazing in the middle of a meat packing plant. With Brooklyn though, I was thinking more about sponsorship opportunities and marketing to help make more a lot more than "generating a fan base." That's a terrible thing to say honestly, but with this ownership, my opinion of them is this: Brooklyn is the best shot at turning a profit, Newark is what is best for the small niche of fans.
In all honestly, I think there are a number of people in this country that will drool over the Nets if Ratner put them up for sale. Stern most likely will want to keep them in the Eastern Conference so things don't get screwy, but I think right now, if this rumor is true and Ratner sold the team, Nets are moving out of the tri-state area.

To the people that think no Brooklyn = Nets leave NJ/NY area, realistically where are they going? Very few if any non-NBA cities have an arena the caliber of the Prudential Center. Plus in this current economy, no one is spending a dime to build anyone a new arena.
This is a very different situation from the Sonics/Thunder because Oklahoma City had a 5-year-old arena to lure a team and there was not a state of the art arena in the Seattle area. Add in the obvious negative PR Stern and the league would get (they got killed with Seattle/OKC situation) and I don't see this one happening at all, especially if there are interested NJ-area buyers such as a Corzine, Vanderbeek, etc.

There are a lot of big U.S. cities that feature two separate sports arenas. Detroit has one for the Red Wings (Joe Louis Arena) and one for the Pistons (Palace of Auburn Hills). Los Angeles has one for the Lakers (Staples Center) and one for the Anaheim Ducks (Arrowhead Pond). Chicago has one for the Bulls (United Center) and one for the Wolves (Rosemont). Phoenix has one for the Suns (US Airways Center) and one for the Coyotes (Glendale Arena). Miami has one for the Heat (American Airlines Arena) and one for the Florida Panthers (BankAtlantic Center).
So why can't Jersey have two arenas- Izod and the Rock?

Don't forget the Bay Area and the Twin Cities. The Warriors play in Oakland while the Sharks are in San Jose while the TWolves are in Minneapolis and the Wild are in St. Paul.
What I want to know is this. If Ratner throws in the towel within a month, can they get a sale passed by the BOG and then move to Newark this November, under the assumption that they get sold to Corzine and Katz? It's not a relocation so there would be no need to beat an April deadline.
