If the Suns win the draft lottery...

Post#1 » by MaryvalesFinest » Sat Apr 11, 2009 10:41 pm

Let's say for once the Suns get lucky and land the #1 draft pick, who would you want them to take at #1? Blake Griffin or Ricky Rubio? You can also vote for someone else. Tell us why you voted for what you did.

If that happened call me crazy but I would want Demar Derozan over both Ricky Rubio and Blake Griffin...So I would vote other...

LOL I'm sure Demar will be available at 14 man.. We don't need to pick him at 1. If someone get's the first pick and doesn't pick Blake Griffin, they are border line (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

Blake Griffin is better than Michael Beasley....

This draft may not be as "deep", but Griffin is clearly the better prospect.

Ricky Rubio is my favorite player in this draft, but if you get the #1 pick and don't lock up Griffin, you should be hanged.

Point and laugh loudly at anyone who tells you differently.

The Wizards might be a good trading partner if they get the #1 or 2 pick. Given there veteran team a player like Amare holds more value than Griff or Rubio.

Anyway, if we got lucky no way I pass on Griffin.

If by some statistical miracle we land the number one pick, we take Griffin, move STAT and rebuild then and there.

If by some lesser statistical miracle, but still a miracle none-the-less, we land the number two pick, we take Rubio, resign Barnes and Hill, give STAT an extension, give it one more go, then break it up.

Yeah, we actually have a legitimate 0.5% shot at the number one pick! I mean I'd say that's a fair chance...at least a much greater chance than:

Amar'e averaging 12 RPG next season (0.4%)
Us winning a championship next season (0.34%)
Terry Porter ever getting a sports related job again (0.2%)
Kerr winning Executive of the Year (0.000000000011%)
Us making the playoffs this current season (0%)

But yeah, I'd take Griffin.

If PHX gets the number one, PHX could still use Amare to land the number 2 and Jamison from WASH (assuming they get the number 2) which it could use to lock in Rubio. We could then package Shaq up with Dragic to NJ for VC, Boone and cap savings. Resign Nash for 3 more years starting at $7 million. Flip Hill and Barnes on the Vet Min and the Veteran's Biennial Exception. We could the use our MLE to sign a veteran 4/5 like Rasheed, Gooden, or Varejao. That would leave us looking something like this:

Nash/ Barbosa/ Rubio
Richardson/ Barnes
VC/ Hill/ Dudley
Griffin/ Jamison/ Amundson
Rasheed/ Lopez/ Boone

That is a smoking 3-point shooting, dynamic slashing, awesome SSOL team. No team would be able to guard all of the shooters we could field. On top of that we use Griffin to grab boards and get put backs while defenses are spread guarding the shooters. We would be able to keep that whole team together for the next two years at least, naybe more.

Now there are a lot of higlhly unlikely contingencies this depends on. This is really a best-case scenario for PHX. We still keep a big, athletic forward, our awesome MVP point guard, our point guard of the future, our foward of the future, two great, exciting wing players that can run the break and finish strong, along with our returning wings from last year, put that together with a good 3/4 in Jamison who can rebound and hit the 3-ball, and Rasheed who brings in a winning attitude, and a load of technical fouls with great defense and his 3-point shooting. That team would have a good combination of older veterans, mid-level veterans and youngsters to make this a balanced, winning, SSOL team. Overall defense would not be great, but in an SSOL application we could be deadly.

I can assure you that in your scenario Jamison would be starting. Griffin will be a stud, but to say he'll be better than Jamison next year is a bit delusional. Griffin would be a monster 6th man.

Biff, you're point is well taken, however, to build his confidence in playing against top-tier teams is why I put him there starting. Either way, if you look at that 2nd squad, it would be pretty freaking fantastic.

And by the way, since we are out of the playoffs, dreaming is about all we can do at this point....8-)

Good bet, however you never can know for sure especially if the suns can trade, say JRich, and move up and land him (J's replacement).

I like DeRozan a lot, and think it could be reallistic to trade J-Rich to a team with Cap space for their pick. Clippers, Thunder, Grizzlies and Raptors should all have picks that could be in play for J-Rich and change.

Mary, put the crack pipe down and come back to reality. Wait a second, that is reality in Maryvale huh? Ok, Ill join you on this trip of DeRozan is the best player. Wooo dude, Im seeing two DeRozans. Lets take him with the first pick and then take his alter ego at #14! DeRozan passes to Derozan for the dunk!!! Shazammmm! Wait, that was a three pointer!

Ok, I will put it down and leave Maryvale land. That was a trip. Its like I had not basketball IQ at all and thought the ghetto of the west valley was a paradise.

So lets be realistic here. Whoever get the first pick (not the suns) will take Griffin. If they do not, they are stupid. Rubio looks solid, but for some reason, I think he could be not as good as everyone thinks. Most likely I will be wrong. Derozan has Kobe attributes but at this age, I don’t see the killer instinct or the skill Kobe had at his age. I think he will have a mix of VC and Kobe in him. If he is there, I would take him. If you could do a deal in getting rid of barbosa or J-rich to move up to get him, I am fine with it.

But remember guys, there is a better chance that Lebron or wade will sign with the suns in 2010 then Stern to allow the suns to get the #1 pick. We are a cursed franchise and have NEVER got the #1 pick. However, next year we will and that goes to the thunder cats.

And another reason why Mary makes Kerr look like a great GM is by who he would pick with the #1 pick.

by the way, I am a huge Pac-10 fan and I was never impressed with Holiday. He is no westbrook

I would jizz in my pants thinking about Blake Griffin playing in a suns jersey next to Amare. Blake can actually rebound and with him and Amare trading shaq to save money is actually okay.

But knowing the Suns they would end up blowing the pick somehow if they even got lucky enough to get it.
