Re: Race for the Stanley Cup Playoffs (ANA, STL clinch)

Post#81 » by WEFFPIM » Sat Apr 11, 2009 6:44 am

It's all set in the West, St. Louis and Anaheim clinch their berths, say goodnight to the Wild and the Predators. 6-7-8 still need sorting out, but we know who's going to occupy them.

The other big news from the night is that Calgary loses to Edmonton, putting Vancouver in the driver's seat for the Northwest Division. They win in Colorado tomorrow they win the division.

Things to watch for on Saturday:
-Philly, Carolina and Pitt all in action in a battle for 4th. This is Carolina's and Pitt's last game.
-Rangers and Canadiens battle for 7-8, both their final game of the season
-Sharks need one point against the Kings and they win the President's Trophy.
-Hawks need one point in their last two games to win home ice in the first round.

Good night, all

Well, the playoff match-ups in the east are set. I don't know which ones for all, but it will be Boston vs Montreal.

One game still going on, Edmonton and Calgary, but I don't know how much longer I'll be awake, so everything is updated right now.

East is set. Montreal @ Boston, New York @ Washington, Carolina @ New Jersey, Pittsburgh @ Philly.

President's Trophy goes to San Jose. Now let's see if they can not epically fail in the postseason.

One West matchup set, Calgary @ Chicago. Vancouver wins the Northwest.

Can't wait. Not even being a homer, but I think Boston's worst possible match up in round one is Montreal. When both teams are on the games are always so intense and close.

It'll happen. And it'll keep happening as long as they have Big Joe Thornton turning in to Average Joe Thornton every postseason.

Not quite yet, if Philly loses tomorrow then Pittsburgh gets home ice

Thanks. Also, quite an epic matchup we've had here in the Finals, haven't we?

Aside from Flames-Hawks, Habs-Bruins is the series i'm most pumped about. Whenever those two get together, look out. Also, if St. Louis can leap frog Anaheim, Wings-Blues should be a good one.

I'm glad its Montreal. We owe you guys a big beat down.

I would have been pissed to play either the Rangers or Buffalo. Those are two tough match ups for us.

This will be a memorial series and there will be a lot of pushing and shoving

I cant wait for the Garden to be rocking like 1990...wooooohhhhhhhoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

St. Louis leap frogs to 6th, they will face Vancouver in Round 1. Bumps Columbus to 7 and Anaheim to 8. Philly loses so they are now the 5th seed, Pitt gets home ice in Round 1.

Times and days coming soon, but the playoffs start Wednesday.

Here we go, kids.

For 2002 when we were the 8th seed and knocked you guys at 1st seed? Or 2004 when we were 7th seed and you were 2nd and we came back from 3-1 to win the series?

Or maybe you were just talking about last year? :P

Ahhh, playoff trash talk with Bruins fans; lawve it! 90% of my family are Bruins fans so I'm well trained with this!
In fact, of the League's 30 teams, 26 have qualified for the playoffs since the NHL's new economic system was instituted four seasons ago.
That's unreal. Panthers, Kings, Coyotes...and Leafs? When was the last time the Leafs were in?

That's fine, that's what we did last year IIRC.

Going to Game 2. I am going to be pissed if i get stuck in a Canadian fan section. I usually just sit there and am in my own world when I am at a game. But I will turn into the biggest boston loud mouth jackass if the Habs fans wanna start up. :P

I do give props to them though. The travel down must be a pain, and they always do it.

The Celtics play game one of the ECQ on the same night i believe so it sets up for a good day for Boston sport fans. These teams have great history and the Habs no matter the situation have usually have come out on top but it might be too much too handle this time around. Although I hate saying this as a hab fan but it seems unlikely that we can win this series hopefully ii am wrong though and the team steps up.

Just as long as you don't piss on any Habs' fans seats when they get up or beat up female Habs fans like the Bruins fans last year, you're cool with me.
