Bully Beatdown w/ Mayhem Thread

Post#1 » by cowboyronnie » Mon Mar 30, 2009 6:13 pm

Deserves a thread.

Episode 2: the confrontation at the start seemed way rehearsed. Maybe the guy is just an awkward Eastern-European, but he did not seem very surprised by the ambush. And his reasoning for taking the fight was strange.

I'm still disappointed no one can tap these MFers 5 times in 3 mins. I think you should be able to jump 2-3 front chokes in under a minute.

The most painful and humiliating part of being a novice grappler is the full-body exhaustion of trying to work way too hard while the aggressor uses calm and technique. You feel like ****. That was the case in ep 1, but not here. He didn't seem that bummed.

Too much head-hunting. Body kicks. Even if they don't connect, experiencing the power behind a serious fighters kicks is terrifying.

I just heard about this show today at the gym, I guess Michael Westbrook (Redskins) was on one of the shows. They said he got 4 subs, Westbrook is a Brown Belt under Gustavo Dantas (Nova Uniao/Arizona Combat). I cant see a guy who knows nothing only gets sub'd 4 times in 3 minutes, I guess they found some pretty tough bullies.

The bullies are not tough or trained. They show them hitting the bag, and they're clueless. I just think the MMA guys have poor strategy when it comes to subs. Start the sub standing, I say. They keep trying to take it to the ground, and that wastes time. Grab a wrist and throw into an armbar or just brute force a jugular choke.

I read Jake Shields will be on one of the shows.

Should be interesting to see how many subs he can get...or how quickly he can get to 5.

Should also be interesting to see if he loses the kickboxing part.

Finally got to see the show, Mayhem is pretty entertaining I just wish he would stop trying to act like Bam Magera on Viva La Bam. Tight show though.

I love Mayhem. His entrances have always been classic. Rubbing wins in against opponents, not so cool.

Addressing the camera straight ahead is a little much. But he is leagues and leagues less obnoxious than Bam. Bam is a hostile, chortling cokehead.

I thought the most memorable scene is from the first ep. When the big Gino hears "fight" he sort of steps towards Mayhem, and Mayhem backs off without needing to prove himself at all. He did not need to let the guy know who he is. Pretty impressive.

My friend at work said Condit was on one, did anyone catch this? I feel bad for the bully, even in training Condit is a pretty intense dude.

You can see Jake Shields in the opening credits-thing.

3 eps have been broadcast, no Condit.

More on this tip: in the third ep, the bully jumps Mayhem - Mayhem lets him take him down, and just waits the guy out while the bully can find his way onto his back and get an RNC. Mayhem put up no defense at all, and tapped when there was clearly no stress on his neck from the choke. That's a secure dude.

Ep 3 was awesome!

Spoilers:

The MMAer messed with the dude. He easily got all 5 subs. One was a harsh neck crank and the 5th was him taking his time to sink a nasty gogoplata. Suplexes too. Haha. Then beat him until he puked in the kickboxing. He did it right, with body shots.

I havent seen it yet but Sheilds should be owning in the grappling segment, isnt he a Black Belt under Carlson Gracie? He should be getting 5 subs atleast.

Still not a huge fan of this show, but I just caught up on episodes 2-4.

My main problem with it is how unlikable the victims are. They are usually such losers (the guys in episode 2, Jesus Christ....they even had the botched high five/fist bump combo to top things off at the end), yet they start running their mouths at these guys that they are terrified of. So lame.

Episode 3 was awesome. The MMA fighter (who I'd never heard of) completely dismantled that little ****. The puke at the end to top it off was funny too. That was an unreasonable amount of vomit.

Episode 4 finally had some victims that I could get behind. The guy who got kicked out on Christmas with his son...that's just brutal. The other guy was kind of a bitch...seemed like his whole story was "this guy who is smaller than me slapped me once and broke my nose." Plus the guy was a huge douchebag, with his rollerblading crew, cockiness, etc. Knowing that the fighter was Jake Shields, I was looking forward to a serious beatdown....especially in the grappling. **** guy puts on the worst performance so far, only getting 3 subs. Didn't really impress in the standup either.

I think Big John has been calling the fights a bit too early in the kickboxing part....unless they have the 3 knockdown rule.

I've been thinking that Mayhem would fit in pretty well with the new Strikeforce after getting the attention from this show. Some good matchups there at MW with guys around his level.

Mayhem re-match with Jacare at the next Dream, it sounds like.

Fights called too early??? The licensing specifics, I'm sure, are very strict. I'm surprised that any of the striking is allowed, frankly. I wonder what category of match this is called, even.

I dunno, some of it just looks strange. There's no question that it's just a matter of time before the guy gets KO'd, but it seems like that's kind of the whole point, and Big John never lets it get that far. You'll see a guy get hammered and knocked down a few times, but the shots that make him stop the fight have looked relatively weak. Like the guy get knocked down twice, get standing 8 counts, and then he'll catch a few shots standing, and McCarthy will step in.

I heard the Mayhem rematch with Jacare rumour, and while that would be a sweet fight, it doesn't make much sense to me. Part of it is that Mousasi is giving up the MW belt to fight at LHW. It was a hell of a fight the first time around (I was there :D), so I wouldn't mind seeing it again....just so soon and for the MW Belt that hasn't even been defended yet....seems strange. Then again, it's Japan, so who knows.

Oh ****, episode 6!. Thomas Denny was the MMA rep. Spoilers:

The bully got all $10,000 - didn't get submitted and didn't get KOd. He took a huge amount of body kicks, but managed to block most with his arms. Denny laid into him but the guy never quit. That's more respect-worthy than anything. He's not the professional.

I'm not sure what belt he has but I believe he trains under Cesar Gracie with the Diaz brothers.
