Randolph Morris - next season?

Morris rarely sees the court and when he does often looks lost. However to be fair, he was signed for 2 years as a project and wasn't really expected to be immediate impact. This is often the case with young bigs because good ones are so hard to find or develop that teams will often plant one or two 7 footers at the end of the 15 man roster hoping they learn to contribute. Next season will be the make or break season for him sticking. What do people realistically expect from him next year? Will he be able to step up to play 10 minutes a night after a year of coaching up? Or is what we've already seen what we've got and by that I mean a tall guy who if by necessity can be put on the floor to quickly commit several fouls?

I have my doubts in the coaching staff to be able to improve a big man, so I think the odds are stacked against Morris. What do you think?

It's really hard to imagine Morris playing 10 minutes next season. Every time he is on he court (all 5 minutes he has played this year), he doesn't have that drive to be good. He waits around for the rebound, doesn't call for the ball on offense... I find it really hard to believe he will even have a small impact on our team.

I have no idea honestly. I have seen so little of him it's hard to say. I'd imagine he'd be on the roster next year.

Complete stiff. He was a stiff against college competition. He's only on the roster because he's tall.

I never really understood the fascination with him. I think he used the loophole so that teams wouldn't see how bad he really was (I think if he entered the draft he would've been exposed every time he worked out for a team against any competetion). Its not exactly the first time this has happened, Cezary Trybanksi got a 3 year/$4.8 mil contract from the in 2002 or 2003), and it won't be the last time.

Hawks might keep him around based on his "potential", but mostly he is tall and he is cheap. He only has like 25-26 points to go to hit 100 for his career. I'll honestly be suprised if he gets to it next season.

Randolph Morris is already under contract for next season (unless it's not guaranteed, but the sites normally indicate that). I was just curious if anyone felt he could step up to a slightly bigger role or is he just likable dead weight at the end of the bench.

Most people seem to feel he's not likely to contribute anything. Case closed.

Hes under contract, but its really cheap. I wouldn't be that suprised to see them outright cut him or throw him away in a pointless trade.

In all fairness, I wanted Kwame Brown signed for his length. He was considerable more expensive and didn't exactly give Detroit a great return on investment. Per dollar, Randolph Morris might have broke even with him.

Hassan Adams to the Clippers, Shaun Livingston to the Grizzlies, Alex Acker to the Clippers, Cheick Samb to the Clippers (notice a trend), Patrick Ewing Jr for the Draft rights of Frederick Weis.

Pointless trades happen for god knows what reason. I'm just saying Morris could easily be one of them next season.

Most of those trades actually had to do with cap maneuvering. When you are close to the luxury tax or need to free some cap to sign a free agent you seek out a team with cap space (Grizzlies, Clippers) who you can pay (or give a pick) to take a player of your hands. The Ewing deal was probably more for PR than anything else.

I still think some team out there will still see something in Morris and trade some 2014 2nd round pick for him.

There is no probably about it, the Ewing Jr trade was pure PR.
