Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Yeah, the starting five should not log more than 18-24 mins of PT....just to stay fresh and ready.

I'd rest the starting five for the Memphis game altogether

Marvin will definitely get extended minutes to get him back into game shape. I'd play a heavy dose of Mario, Solo, Zaza (I hope he's not seriously injuried)...and give spot minutes to Gardner, Hunter...and, yes, Speedy! I need to see Speedy play a few ticks this season!

Interestingly enough, most coaches/commentators think it's a better idea to play your guys their normal minutes these last couple games. It keeps them focused and intense, you don't want to have to just flip the switch and turn intense as soon as the playoffs start. I was watching some of the Cavs - C's game yesterday and Van Gundy, Mark Jackson, and even Wilbon and Barry in the studio all said that the smart move is to play these last few games with your starters. Not only that, they all said they thought it was a good idea to play these last few games with tremendous intensity to prepare yourself for the upcoming playoff intensity. They were talking about all the teams that have already locked up their seeding, and whether they should rest their starters the last 2-3 games since the outcomes don't matter. I think Woodson will and should play our guys most of the game and I hope our starters play with playoff-level intensity and focus these past two games.

I'd also like to see us deliver a message and beat the Heat soundly on Tuesday. They're a young team like us, and I don't want them having the confidence that they can win on our home court. Confidence is going to play a huge roll in this series, given the relative youth of each team. I'm expecting a playoff - type atmosphere tuesday night.

If you remember the Hawks lost there last 3 games going into the playoffs last year...including a game at home where Boston's backups beat us when we were trying to clinch a playoff spot. If Wade only makes a brief cameo(or doesn't suit up at all)...then the game has no meaning. I think resting our players and avoiding another injury is far more important than trying to send a message to Miami.

Infact I would argue that the Hawks starters are going to mail it in regardless of how much minutes Woody plays them. You will notice that a good number of the Hawks worst defensive efforts at home have come against mediocre teams and/or teams missing key players(Duncan and KG)while they have played great D vs teams like Cleveland,Portland,LA,Utah, etc. I just can't imagine the Hawks coming out and treating this like a playoff game if Wade doesn't play.

Jermaine O'Neal will miss Tuesday's game against the Hawks with a calf injury.

Heat board is saying Wade/Haslem/Head are in injured list today. JO & Moon will sit out too. Lets hope Speedy and Marvin gets some good workout tonight. No injuries please.

What are the odds that Beasley will set a career high tonight? They have 3 starters missing and the Hawks gave up like 115 ppg in their 2 games after clinching last year to Miami and Orlando's backups.

Just heard on the radio we'll be resting our regulars tonight. Bad move.

Should be interesting to see how Craig Claxton plays tonight. Can he bring his cane or his leg braces on the court with him? I think he should be forced to play with his contract taped to his jersey.

Yeah he is but I hope he plays, we need him too. He hasn't played significant minutes in over a month.

I think it's smart for Woody to rest the regulars. Assuming Wade doesn't play....the only way this game could affect our playoff series at all is if a key player get's injured. Attempting to send a message to scrubs like Cook,Quinn,Diawara,Anthony, etc is pointless and I'm glad Woodson realizes that.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
