I have to ask this question. Since I was a Sonics fan I never paid much attention to the Grizzlies once they left here in Vancouver. I remember reading somewhere that Drew Gooden and Memphis parted ways under less than amicable circumstances.

My question is was that true? And if so what happened? To me Drew Gooden would be a perfect fit with Memphis. He rebounds extremely well, scores at a decent pace, and has that veteran quality and consistency that the Grizzlies could use. I also think he'll be looking at MLE money, which Memphis could easily top by a little bit to sway him away from other teams.

I honestly don't see any of this years draft picks besides Griffin that look like they'll be better although the potential in players like Hill and Monroe, and possibly Clark and Aminu could be there but not right away. So when I see Boozer/Milsap/Lee, I see big bucks. Don't get me wrong. Any of those three, plus Griffin, would be a reason for celebration, but I just don't see Memphis signing them.

Gooden, Powe, and at a longer shot Odom, are more likely to be in the range of fair money that still allows the Grizzlies to give Gay an extention plus still be able to look at some other veterans like a Keyon Dooling or Tony Allen types that can lend some leadership and backup the young core players.

Gooden was pretty much a dunderhead when he was here with the Grizz. IMO it wasn't all his fault - part of it was the doomed from the start experiment to play him at the 3 so Pau(la) could stay at the 4. Had Gooden been the 4 from the get go in Memphis with Pau playing a faux 5, things may have been different. Also, for being a 3 year college player, his out of the gate BB IQ wasn't all that impressive.

All of that being said, there's a wholly new regime here (other than Heisley) - so I don't think they'd be necessarily jaded by his past in Memphis. However, I don't think that Grizz front office can afford to "settle" on the likes of Gooden as the answer at the 4. If (WHEN) the Grizz fail to land the first overall, they really need to go into overdrive and line up Millsap, Lee or Boozer or make a deal for a grade A power forward. Then they need to fill out the bench.

 That deal makes absolutely no sense for Memphis. Give up our #1 building block in O.J. Mayo AND give up a top 5 pick, all for a guy that can just leave in 2010? Absolutely not.

Counter offer:

Toronto gets- Rudy Gay, Darrell Arthur, Orlando's 2009 1st round pick, Memphis's 2010 1st round pick (top 10 protected)

Memphis gets- Chris Bosh (newly extended), Marcus Banks

We rather just wait and sign Bosh as a free agent.

He is at the TOP of my list.

Bosh will not sign with Memphis and he won't be leaving Toronto through free agency ....

Anyways, What do Grizz fans think of a Jose for Conley swap? with more pieces involve of course ....

As long as the more pieces were weighed heavily in the Grizz's favor it would be something that you would have to look at.

Of course I would do that swap. The question is why Toronto do it? Cap space?

Jose to me is the perfect pg or a combo like Gayo. He doesn't need the ball, is a great shooter, and can take care of the ball while making sure both Gay and Mayo get there touches. He is a great presense in the lockerrooom and is a teammate of Gasol from Spain. He is on a great contract and could be a piece that could help them start winning. Jose has always had issues on defense though he has been a lot better in the last little while since his harmstring is 100%.
The Raptors as a team, need a slasher that we have lacked with our scoring bigs. Conley provides us that (45% of his shots are taken close to the net). He is younger and less proven then Jose but seems to be coming along great. He has really payed well the last little while since the all-star break. I however feel that he is someone that needs the ball in his hands and with two great wing scorers in Gay and Mayo, Memphis might look to trade for a PG that is a better fit.

Now, you guys are under the salary cap by quite a bit, so you should have no problem taking on the extra salary. But like I said additional pieces are required to make it work. Would you guys accept a package of Jose + one of Banks or Kapono for Conley + Jaric? Banks makes a lot less then Kapono and could help conserve more capspace for you guys, Kapono is more if you guys want the 3pt shooting.
