Jays Commercials

Post#1 » by chunkybwoy_53 » Wed Apr 15, 2009 1:30 am

I'm not sure if this deserves it's own thread, but I've always admired Blue Jays commercials. And that's saying a lot as usually I can't stand watching commercials. The Blue Jays commercials are always humorous, but still do an effective job of advertising the product.

I was wondering if the advertising is run by an outside company or if it's done in-house. I was wondering because I can't stand Rogers' commercials (home phone/internet/mobile). I think it would be a good idea to use the same firm or same people who do Blue Jays advertising for Rogers advertising.

I also wanted to know what you guys think about the commercials?

Like? Dislike? Indifferent?

I completely agree. Whatever marketing firm the Jays employ is doing a great job. The ones last year and the year prior to that were creative as well.

And like you said, the Rogers commercials are terrible. Can't stand the ones they have for the HDTV box. "Oh look hunnie, you just plug it in!" or the one where the couple is caught looking into their neighbours house. Poor, poor commercial. Even the group of friends who seem to brag about their phones to each other are ridiculously annoying. Anyway. /rant.

How about the fish-looking dude getting owned constantly by the good looking guy because of his cell phone?

Damn, forgot about that hard-headed loser. You'd think that after a while he'd finally switch over to Rogers.

that's just plain awful... who the heck plays with their phone like that.... i;'m curious as to what the boardroom was like when deciding the dialogue for this commercial.... how did the board actually approve this?!? Did they all thought that this "slide in/slide out" would be a clever idea?

Most commercials are garbage, the Rogers ones are definitely bad.

I agree completely on the Jays commercials though, they've always been quite good. The Halladay one makes me laugh.

How many do they have this year? I've seen the Rolen and Halladay ones. They were really funny, and generally all the past Jays commercials have been funny too.

The best commercial of the past few years was the frozen gatorade shower knocking out the coach... I agree that the Jays have easily the best commercials of any sports team in Ontario. They're funny but in a subtle way so they don't really get annoying over time.

My favorite one was Troy Glaus getting mad because the kids couldn't hit the pinata and taking the bat and knocking it over the fence. Or Roy Halladay throwing the rock at the beehive.

And of course, the worst of the series of good Jays commercials was the one where the bride throws the bouquet over her head and Overbay intercepts it and throws it.

It's the worst in a way that it's just a bad commercial. But good in the sense that it's a pretty accurate depiction of our boy Lyle. I mean, only an oaf like him would do such a thing.

Completely agree, I actually watch the commercials when they're on instead of flip through channels... they've been constantly good for the past three years and this year is no exception - but much like BasketballAbyss, I've only seen ones for Rolen and Halladay this year, am I just missing the others that may be on, or is it just two so far?

And on a sidenote, the absolute WORST commercial on TV today is the Burger King one with the "tiny burgers" if anybody knows what I'm talking about

It would probably be a bit more accurate if he was going for the bouquet and was outraced by an elderly woman.

As much as Overbay's play at 1st isn't good, the jokes around him are just flat out fantastic.

Almost makes him worth it...Almost.

there's actually 3 blue jay commercials out. The Roy Halladay one is pretty funny and the Scott Rolen one is ok and there's also the vernon wells commercial, I didn't quite understand the theme with that one

I never liked these Jays commercials with them as kids. Is it the little Doc whos' doing the alphabet? A B C D... E R A

That just makes him seem stupid to me.

What's odd is only the Jay's have to do commercials. The Leafs never do. And even the Raps...aren't their stupid kid ads only on Raps TV?

I've seen the Jose Calderon as a kid and Bosh vs Howard as a kid commercials even though I don't have Raps TV. I'm pretty sure they come on CBC.
