Mikki Moore is horrible

Post#1 » by Red2 » Thu Apr 16, 2009 11:41 am

nice guy, lots of energy but he stinks. He doesn't block shots, can't box out and doesn't rebound. He still doesn't know our defense and he makes stupid fouls like the one last night grabbing the jersey. I hope he's not on the team next year

That pretty much sums it up...

The only good thing is that he can hit a jumper...
...and he can give you 6 fouls...which is his strength, I guess...

Luckily he won`t play much in the playoffs with Leon and KG back...

Well everyone should have known that coming in. He adds size but lacks strength but we brought him in to knock down some jumpers - although it looks like Baby has that covered pretty well. But another important factor is that he's a veteran we can throw who has 6 fouls up his sleeve. That in itself can become valuable.

Oh he doesn't rebound?

His rebound rate with the Celtics 14.1%. Big Baby's Rebound rate 11.2% The sad thing is Baby has 100 pounds on him and can't rebound as well. But hey continue with your bash fest. Don't let the facts get in the way.

Now that Powe the Show is healthy, we might not have to see too much of Moore in the playoffs. 8-)

I think that's misleading. While Moore gets a decent amount of rebounds, he is absolutely horrible a boxing out and gets pushed around by guards sometimes. While Big Baby isn't a good rebounder, he at least puts a body on someone and helps a teammate get a rebound. I would like to see a teams overall rebound differential with Moore on the floor because it seems like we get outrebounded when he plays.

Someone just needs to feed Mikki a steak and some cookies and he'll be fine.

Moore doesn't get any tough rebounds and he has really weak hands. He gets stripped all the time. Overall he lacks the strength to be an effective big man

The guy was a free pickup near the end of the season, were you really expecting that we were getting a Dwight Howard clone that a dozen teams unknowingly let slip through their hands over the last decade?

The guy was exactly what was needed the past month, a long body, healthy, just who would have been our backup Center the last month without him? Bill Walker or Gabe Pruitt?

With Powe and KG back, he's only going to get spot minutes, which is all PJ got anyway. He'll do fine, he has a nice shot, a huge amount of energy, and you know he's going to give it his all. And like PJ, he'll fit in better the more practice time he gets.

Thank you for being the voice of reason. At best Mikki is a 10th man...he was forced to play more minutes due to injury...

Basketball statistics are pretty sketchy and by no means a definitive statement on how well a player plays. I'm willing to bet most of Moore's rebounds are uncontested, meaning he pretty much gets defensive rebounds by default, when the opposition retreats for transition defense. Just from watching, he's horrendous at contested rebounds: he's frequently in the wrong position, does a poor job boxing out, and even when he does box out, the other players routinely push his small frame out of the way for offensive rebounds and layups. As Red2 mentioned, he's very weak and if another players gets their hands on the ball, they'll easily rip it away from him. They're actually developing a statistic to track how well a player gets contested rebounds (http://www.82games.com/rebounds.htm) and I'm willing to bet these statistics will reflect how poor Moore is in this area.

And that's just rebounding. He's been a very poor defensive player his entire career, and tries to mask this by frantically running around, putting on the facade of a "hustle player." He commits fouls only rookies make, and is just generally clueless. We were in a kind of bad position since we needed a big and we couldn't really wait out for Joe Smith, since there would be the possibility of ending up with no big man at all. If this happened we would've had to play Pierce at power forward for a long stretch. Moore has been beneficial since he helped stop a temporary leaky pipe, but other than that, he really shouldn't be considered anything but a stopgap.

And if you want to look at statistics, we can look at net production and Roland rating, which are pretty much stopgaps for more telling statistics which aren't available to the public yet. Moore's net production is -11, compared to Davis's -6.5, Powe's +3.1, and Garnett's +10.4. He has the worst on the team.

It's his hands, he turns rebounds into loose balls and offensive boards to the other team, turns hte ball over. We should've waited for Joe and settled for Gooden if Joe was not an option. Remember if, we waited, Moore probably signs with San Antonio or Cleveland, leaving Smith or Gooden for us...either that or everyone waits until Smith decides and then Moore gets offers.

I just realized something though - without KG, it doesn't really matter.

The only good season he had was in NJ and that was because Kidd would spoonfeed him the rock for open shot after open shot... It seems like his mid-range J has regressed since his time in NJ though...

It's strange that a guy can shoot 60% and still make you not want to play him.

The foul rate is out of control, I don't know if it's the more complicated defense, his lack of strength, or something else, but I'd almost rather have him just give the guy the shot attempt than see him try to make a defensive play. For us he's averaging 4 fouls in 19 minutes, or about 10 fouls per 48!
