Whispers of new GM

The Wolves have given McHale a week to make up his mind and Taylor has said he expects to make an announcement within the next two weeks, when the team names its new head of basketball operations.

Ole Sid Hartman said the new GM will choose his coach. So even if McHale wants to stay, he's not guaranteed a job.

This is a reversal from what Taylor said just over a month ago when he said the job is there for McHale as long as he wants it.

Respect your elders.

just smile and nod your head, while saying "Good job Sid, good job."

I think that if McHale gets to make up his own mind about it, then the new GM is almost certainly someone who's already in the "club" -- i.e., not really what I was hoping for.

This latest "twist" in Sid's column? Haven't read it but it sounds as though somebody over at 600 First Avenue realized that Taylor's previous comments about McHale keeping the coaching job "if he wants it" kind of made it obvious where the "new" GM was going to be found. My feeling is that if Taylor did tell Sid that, it was only to provide cover for the fact that no real "outside" search for a new GM was conducted.

Sid's article said they interviewed two internal candidates (Stack & Hoiberg) and four external. With the recent news regarding Flip Saunders & the Washington Wizards, it wouldn't suprise me that Flip is one of the candidates and he is setting his market value for negotiations with Taylor. What makes it even more likely is that the terms have been leaked but nothing has been signed. So Flip has an offer and if Taylor wants him, he'll have to beat the standing offer.

It might be Sid, but I think it's the smart thing to do. The GM should choose the coach, that way if the team fails, there's no excuse.

Brit Robson believes they've interviewed David Kahn 2-3 times. Robson has a link to an interview with Kahn.

Kahn sounds fairly inteligent. If Taylor was going the external route, I just wish he would've done it back when McHale moved to the coaches chair.

which David Kahn? I googled the name and every entry is about either David Kahn Jeanswear that uses the best Japanese denim to make jeans, or else another David Kahn thats written a bunch of books about code-breaking and military intelligence.

Either way we can't go wrong.

We could use a good jeans designer. Here is a link to Brits blog. Read the bottom regarding Kahn. The McHale interview is very interesting read as well.

Wonder if he would take on another front office job with his NBDL tasks.

most likely he'd just leave his NBDL franchise on the curb with a "FREE" sign propped up against it

or the day McHale is no longer employed with the Timberwolves

From what I hear, it's not Kahn. I like their choice, but I'm not 100% so I'm not giving a name quite yet.
