can anyone help explain why juan has had a terrible season

Post#1 » by beretta90 » Thu Apr 16, 2009 6:29 pm

in his first stint with the wiz he played good. had several 20 point games n that 35 point game in the playoffs. did good with the blazers and raptors. was there 2nd leading scorer in portland and a great contributor in toronto. even got to play with the pistons in the eastern conference finals. he comes here n stinks it up terribly for his 2nd stint. he might not get signed again. can someone explain this season to me? was it lazyness cuz the team already sucked. did he feel mad cuz he was startin everyone over him. whut is it? will he ever play again?

because he's just not that good as an NBA player.

He's got a PG body at best, but his PG skilz are clearly
wanting. He's not horrible as an 11/12th man. But he's
not the guy you want to rely on for consistent production.

None of this is news.

He can be effective only on a very situational basis.

And I was there when he dropped 35 on CHI. Huge thrill to witness that.

Juan was better when he was younger. At age 30, he's not quite as quick -- especially with that sore Achilles. He's had a pretty good career, though, considering his size and overall ability. A couple solid seasons, a few huge moments in the playoffs, and more than $12 million in salary. Not bad for a skinny 6-3 (yeah right) SG in a PG's body.

I was there too, Jimmy. It was truly indescribable -- almost surreal. The place was apoplectically loud and as each successive shot went in, I could less and less believe what I was seeing.

Anyhow beretta (or Juan's brother or Lonny Baxter or whoever you are) Juan's just not a very good NBA player. Local hero, great college player, etc. But he's just not a rotation quality NBA player.

^ Yeah, I think what TSW is saying is the way to look at it. He's had a pretty good run everything considered. He had one of the most memorable individual performances in this franchise's only playoff series win in 20 years (with Gil's buzzer-beater). He'll always be a hero around here.

think of a better shooting, better scorer and more skilled(point guard) player and you got Stephen Curry

Juan actually looked like a real PG in the first month of the season. I thought he'd taken his game to another level. (Of course that was while the only alternatives were a one handed Antonio Daniels and Dee Brown, so maybe that's not saying much.) It wasn't until his Achilles started bothering him that he dropped to NBDL status.

I think Juan has another couple years left as a third string point guard who sets an example for the young guys in practice. I wouldn't mind having him as this team's 15th man for a little while longer.

I would also say Eddie Tappscott really cut Dixon's minutes when he first came on as coach while Mike James saw a majority of those minutes. Anything from the last few games shouldn't be taken to seriously since he has been playing injured and assuming that Dixon can recover from the achilles injury.

Dixon was scoring and contributing the best he could at the beginning of the season while Eddie Jordan was the coach. I do believe in the beginning of the season he was one of our best scorers. As soon as Tapscott became the coach, Dixon's time diminished. What I don't understand is all of this talk of some of the teammates not putting in their effort. We needed scorers and Tapscott had Dixon on the bench. That really can mess with one's confidence. I don't think its fair to say that he's terrible and that he's seen the last of his NBA career. He's not a terrible player and he's as good as a great number of NBA players because he has HEART. He's the guy I would want on a roster making a run for the Championship. Too bad the Wizards don't know how to utilize the talents they have on this team. Dixon is not a PG and I hope the days of playing out of position is over. That's one of many things I disliked about Eddie Jordan's coaching.

Juan was playing poorly before the injury, and even more poorly afterwards. Were he not injured and playing on a team with a well-run offense, Juan would have been ok as an occasional streak-shooter. Juan has been in the NBA much-longer than he should have.

ps. If we didn't sign JD to begin with and had Mason in his place, we wouldn't ahve sucked so-bad. We also wouldn't be in the running in the Griffin/Rubio sweepstakes.
