Best Pro 3-7years from now?

Post#1 » by wiff » Thu Apr 16, 2009 10:27 pm

So I think it's safe to say the Blake Griffin is far and away the best prospect in this draft to make an immediate impact.

Rubio possibly the next immediate impact player.

But who's going to be the best pro from 2012 through 2016.

After all Durant and Westbrook are only 21.

Jeff Green and DJ White are still only 22.

Weaver 23.

Thabo and Livingston are 24.

Krystic 25.

The Thunder still have plenty of time before fan expectations realistically start thinking about playoffs. I think they have a decent shot next season but if they only win 35. I wouldn't be shocked.

In fact with how tough the West is it might take three more seasons before they crack into the playoffs.

So given that the Thunder have a couple years to develop someone who out of all of these guys is going to be the best pro in 3-7 years?

Thabeet?

Harden?

Jennings?

Evans?

DeRozan?

So that's the question who is going to be the best player in this draft in 3-7 years not including Griffin or Rubio?

And oddly enough everyone of these guys the Thunder could take.

If they draft a PG they can stick Westbrook at the SG.

Take a SG keep Westbrook at the PG.

Or simply take the big guy in the center.

Honestly the guy who I want least is Harden. I think he is number three on the biggest immediate impact list. But I think down the road guys like DeRozan and Evans will surpass him.

A guy I have some intrigue in is Brandon Jennings. I watch the McDonald's All American game two years ago (which is the only game I have watched of his). The kid was great, throwin' dimes left and right. However those games don't really showcase defense so I have no idea how he is defensively.

But the kid was really quick and had some really nice court vision.

I think Thabeet has the biggest bust potential but I also think he has the biggest game changer potential too. That's a tricky one. A little double edge sword if you will.

DeRozan and Evans are both nice prospects DeRozan has potential to play SG and SF.

Evans looks to me to be in the same boat as Westbrook. Can play either PG or SG. Which isn't a bad thing but do the Thunder need a clone? Or is his talent too good to pass up?

Who should the Thunder spend their pick on? Which one of these guys would you pick to be the best pro 3-7 years from now?

I've gotta go with Thabeet. With what he showed an UCONN, I think worst case, he is a backup center that brings some game changing defense. Best case, he is Mutumbo with a little better feel for the game offensively.

There are some other great names in that list and not too many that I wouldn't take on our team, but to me Thabeet is far and away the class of those guys.

A lot of people have been hating on Harden recently but I think he will prove the doubters wrong. I wouldn't mind at all if the Thunder drafted him and think that he could fit well with the team despite the concerns about his shortcomings as a pro.

As much as I would like to hope that Thabeet will pan out, I have been jaded by so many Sonic big man projects that have failed over the years. It could happen, but I am not too optimistic about it, despite his college success.

I think Rubio takes a few years before he reaches elite status in the league

Thabeet can come right in and impact the game...
