My money is on Leon Powe

Post#1 » by DorfonCeltics » Thu Apr 16, 2009 5:29 pm

I know everyone is still trying to deal with the shock of losing KG for perhaps the whole playoffs but I just want people to relax, Leon Powe is coming to the rescue. Has anyone seen him play the last few games? He is straight beasting. You guys watch, the guy is going to average 18 and 9 in this series against Chicago and be our low post scoring threat. With Baby backing up Perk and hitting that jumper and Mikki providing energy off the bench at the 4, we're in good shape. Leon is going to earn his new contract this playoffs. Oh yeah, that Tony Allen cat isn't too bad either.

Leon is coming back at the right time, no doubt...just wish he had KG's height! But he is going to be huge for us...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Perkins. That's the guy who must step up. Of course Powe and Davis will have to fill in Garnett's role, but Perkins, the guy who's been around the longest among the 3, must step up.

Especially on the defensive end, Perk needs to pick up the slack...

I like it...only problem is that Powe just doesn't get a ton of post touches to work with - unless Rondo/Marbury are hooking him up in the pick-and-roll and cuts he needs to be fed on the block...what I think is more likely is that the COMBO of Powe and Davis will surpass KG's individual statistical contributions...

However, its the DEFENSE that's in question - the team has been pretty piss-poor defensively with no KG...

Bill you know as well as anybody that Leon doesn't need a ton of post touches to be effective. He's at his best of the pick and roll, sharp cuts to the hoop, and offensive rebounds. You might be right and it's a combination of Leon and Baby but really believe that Leon is going come up huge in this series.

Leon Powe has averaged 13.7 points on 78.3% shooting against the Cavs in three games this year. He also performed really well against the Lakers this season and last. Granted I think the defensive void with Garnett out is probably too big to beat these teams, but I think we'd still be fairly competitive if we faced them.

This is correct. KG can be replaced on offense, though we'll miss his mid-range game. But we're screwed on defense. Sadly, part of what we lose on defense is good old fashioned effort. It's pretty clear the rest of the team isn't as interested in playing defense when KG is out. And don't even get me going on the leadership we lose...

I think he will work well with Marbury, some of stephs passes/assists are flat out rediculous and will allow leon to catch and finish at will

The one silver lining in all this, and it is small; is that we get KG's presence back on the bench. That right there is going to make us better than e have been sense he has been out. Perk and Rondo especially feed off KG. I don't think Kevin will let Powe and Baby not have a huge playoffs. Even out of action, I think KG can will this team to victory.

Powe is a warrior. Now is his time to shine. I expect him to meet the challenge.

We absolutely need him on bench. I would even go so far that he would be part of 12 active players in game clothes just to give everyone the fell of his presence. We can go with 11 man, Giddens,Pruit and Walker wouldn not play being active.
