Reaction to Garnett news by some playoff bound players

Post#1 » by campybatman » Fri Apr 17, 2009 2:04 pm

I find the comments made by Cavalier players to be of the most interesting. What struck me was something said by LeBron. I reckon they weren't buying Rivers and Ainge's somewhat encouraging comments initially.

Cavaliers star LeBron James said the news didn't come as a surprise.

"We all thought that he wouldn't be back for the playoffs anyway," said James. "I think it's still a really, really good team. Of course it doesn't help them that he's out because of how good he is offensively and defensively, but you really can't count them out with the power that they have still."

I'm guessing players from other teams talk to each other so maybe they had some inside info.

Not if there's a gag order. Ainge might have instructed Garnett to stay quiet on this until otherwise.

The rest of that article says that Scal participated in 1-1 drills and could play in game 3 against Chicago. At least there is some good news coming out of Celtics central.

Wow...I never thought I'd see the day when we were hoping for Scal's return.

He's really come a long way. :)

Oh boy Scal is back! ......................................................................................... I'm glad he's healthy, but come on. We just lost KG, let's not try compensate and make ourselves feel better because Scal is back. Lol.

I think other NBA teams would have figured out that KG is not returning. The signs were there.

I have to say, I love KG and all, but I don't get why he's not pushing to play.

I realize there are cap issues, so the team doesn't want him to permanently f*ck up his knee, but why doesn't KG say "I'm playing no matter what"?

Curt Schilling, anyone? You have a limited window to win a championship (yes, we've already got one but if we want another it's gotta come soon).

If this is some problem that's going to be chronic going forward, that means KG's never gonna be 100%. He might as well go for it now.

I dunno. I hate that I'm calling KG out like this but I just don't really get it. I can't believe he won't give it a go just to see if he can run or jump a little with the adrenaline flowing.

Garnett's reaction?

"He was frustrated. He was mad at me, mad at everybody. Then he understood," Rivers said. "He put up a fight. He's really frustrated, but that's Kevin. That's why we got him, because he cares so much."

I have no doubt that KG WOULD play, if they allowed him to. But in the interest of the franchise, it is best to hold him out and not do longterm damage to the knee.

WOW You sound very selfish by your post.
So this guy is facing a possible career ending injury and he has worked very hard at getting back in the game and you know he is a competitor and it tears him apart not being able to play, and yet you sit here and post this. WOW.

The fact is, at some point you can be so injured that playing actually hurts the team. He does no one any good if he can't get up and down the court. Curt Schilling wouldn't have played either if his injury limited him to throwing 75 mph fastballs.

Good point. If he's hobbled enough that he's hurting us, then it's no good for us *OR* him to be out there...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

I though it was Oden since he was with Moses when they parted the Red Sea........
But seriously P, I can believe hickfromfrenchlick and other fans arent talking K.Gs injury seriously.
The guys been out this whole time, you guys are the defending champs and people are questioning his loyalty and commitment to the game.
He is facing a possible career ending injury and peps are sitting here saying why doesnt he try.
You dont think he would if he could?
Unbelievable.

Tony, good to see you man!!!

I agree, you can't question KG's heart or desire...we all know he'd be out there trying to play even if his **** leg was hanging on by a thin strip of skin...so it's gotta be bad!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Good point, also by playing injured he can cause more damage to his knee that even an off season surgery cant save his knee or his career.

Thanks brah, same here.
I agree, I mean some peps are calling K.G out like he has no heart or he hurt his pinky.
This is a serious injury that wasnt either evaluated correctly or gotten worst, but Im not a Cs fan, but one thing I would never do is question K.Gs loyalty, his heart or his commitment to the game. NEVER.
I know no matter what he goes thru he will still be there for his team, and if I know K.G its probably ripping him apart for not being able to play and be a part of his team and the playoffs.

I imagine if KG could play he would but theres no reason to send a hurt KG out there. He would probably be hurting not only himself but the team as well.

I *do* have a feeling that KG will come back at some point...even diminished he's going to want to play some, especially in the later rounds...
